OutdoorMN News - Special archery deer hunt begins Saturday in East Minnesota River Refuge

Recommended Posts

Special hunt application and registration required

A special archery deer hunt opens Saturday, Sept. 15 in the East Minnesota River Refuge, according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

The refuge is located in Blue Earth and Le Sueur counties along the east bank of the Minnesota River. It is open to archery hunting until Dec. 31 for taking antlerless deer and legal bucks. Deer hunters are allowed a bag limit of two deer (1 buck and 1 antlerless deer, or 2 antlerless deer). Hunters cannot exceed the statewide limit of 1 buck.

Hunter registration or application is required prior to hunting. The purpose is to assist in the tracking of the deer harvest and deer population in the refuge.

Also unique to this hunt: The entire hunting zone is on private land. That makes it important for hunters to request landowner permission before hunting the area. Trespassing is a misdemeanor, and could cost hunters their license to hunt. All conservation and peace officers enforce trespass laws.

Additional information:

  • The number of permits to be issued is not limited, but hunters must apply before hunting.
  • There is no fee for this permit application.
  • This is special hunt area 991. More information and application information can be found on pages 98 and 109 of the 2018 Hunting and Trapping Regulations Handbook.
  • Harvesting deer of either sex is permitted.
  • The Kasota Prairie Scientific and Natural Area is not open to public hunting.
  • This hunt has no total quota in 2018.

More information is available by calling the DNR’s Nicollet area wildlife office at 507-225-3572.  It’s also available at mndnr.gov/hunting.

The water level is still low but will be coming up after the last heavy rainfall that we got! Cliff

At the hunting shack we put up a pulley and run the winch cable from the 4 wheeler through it and hoist em up.

ps I would be happy to provide closeups of particular areas or the insets on the map.    Especially if they are of your hot spots.

Note to self.  Keep your "Packers Suck" T-shirt in the fishing boat for all future fish pics.   Ties are like head butts, everyone loses.

And this is why you ALWAYS check out FM. I had a crazy busy summer as I worked full time so my weekends and evenings I was always doing somthing and I never just sat down. So I just noticed I missed this great “ goodie” package. Darn!

A chain, a $20-$30 come-along and your set. Wrap chain around rafter hook up come- along and away you go. Been doing it this way for many many years without trouble.

I'll say this. As a Vikings fan, Mrs. Skunked Again was pretty emotionally upset in the 2nd and 3rd quarters. She warmed up a bit when her team came roaring back in the 4th. I don't think either of us would have survived the four hour drive back to MN without a tie.
