Fishing minnesota lake osakis get together

Recommended Posts

Borch

A group of us are planning on getting together on Lake Osakis for the day on 8/18/18 for a day of fishing and a midday picnic at the Battle Point Park.  We would enjoy connecting with some fellow anglers from the site to connect and have some fun.  Osakis is a great lake for big gills, slab crappies, nice walleye, pike, smallmouth and largemouth bass.  The best walleye bite has been during low light periods.  Sunfish and crappie bite all day.  We plan on taking a break around noon at the Battle Point Park for lunch.  Right now tentatively looking to connect around 8-9 at the access.  Otherwise look for a red and white Warrior and connect with me, "Borch" on the water I'd you'd like.   I might even have a fishing report really fresh fishing report for you.

We've settled into our camping spot and the fishing report is that the sunfish and crapoies are on fire.  Walleyes are very tough right now.  But bass and pike are also being very cooperative.

I fished most of the lake in scout mode today.  Found walleyes early on midlake humps and bars in 18-24 fow.  Got a couple to go on jigging raps but then they shut off.  Spent the rest of the day trying to pin down a panfish pattern.  Found good numbers of sunfish in shallow cabbage beds(6-9 fow).  None were huge but good numbers of 8-8 1/2" gills.  A few crappies are mixed in with them and some are suspending off the break.  There are also good numbers of sunfish in or just outside the reeds.   Most of the sunfish ran smaller though although there were some keepers there too.  Pike and bass I did not target but saw others do so successfully.   Plenty of bass in the reeds and spinnerbaits seemed to be what most were using.   Troll over the weeds and you will be rewarded with pike.

Decent walleye bite this morning once I figured out the pattern.  Jigging raps with a horizontal presentation on midlake humps.  So far the big fish is this 25" eye.

With the crazy restrictions on Mille Lacs and the uncertain opener are any of you still planning to fish Mille Lacs?  Will you hit other lakes or just going to stay home this summer and hope things get back to normal?  The very dedicated Walleye guys are really going to need to adjust or hit other lakes.

Businesses are going to get clobbered.

Sad situation. Hopefully there is something left in 2021.

      Yamaha 150 four stroke.
Minn Kota 80 Terrova trolling motor w/iPilot.
      Lowrance HDS 7 & HDS 5 depth/fish finders.
      Onboard 2 bank battery charger.
      Large Livewell.

      Removable bow cushions
      Built in cooler
      Interior LED courtesy lights
      Lots of storage

I’m sure there are things that I’ve missed in the above list of options. This is the perfect fishing boat, and can easily double as a family runabout for skiing, tubing and cruising around.

A group of high school buddies and some of their family make an Annual trip up to Baudette, MN to fish Walleyes on Lake of the Woods. I look forward to this trip each year! Since this is an Annual Trip we all put some money and bragging rights on the line for the Angler who can catch the biggest fish of the weekend, take home the Trophy, $400 Cash and call themselves "Mr. Walleye" for the next 365 days. Watch the first full day of fishing out of Ballards Resort and see 2 new PB's!

When will pools 2, 3, and 4 start producing the quality & quantity that fishing shows are made of?

Last Tuesday there was a decent number of rigs in the lot at 494. We messed around from shore and only managed wind bites. There wasn't a bunch of time or energy spent casting plastics & drowning worms,,,but it was sooooo nice to play with a long rod. With any luck the shore ice will be gone in a jiffy and then it's game on. Can't wait to stick a biggun and let her go.

      Good Luck & Be Safe!

Has anyone ever fished Nina Moose? I’ve heard it has good fishing, the trip would be mostly walleye and smallmouth.

Sure was. And those 2 treated about everyone there that way!!😂   Oh yea them outdoor movie theaters, UFFDA. Kimball ballroom as well as me Jim's in Foley where good for a change of scenery. Seen head east there. That was awesome.

Although I suspect I'm younger than a few of you. I used to remember as a kid going to the cabin with my dad and his buddy, I sat in the middle of a normal cab pickup, they both smoked, windows cracked about an 1/8 of an inch if I was lucky. Friday night we had hot dogs and canned vegetables, we'd catch walleye and 14-15 inch crappies off the dock and they were filleted without a second thought. Saturday nights was round steak and more canned veggies and Sunday we would head home with a cooler of fish. Not that I condone it in the least but there was always a six pack playmate cooler between my feet with high life and I would normally stuff a caprisun in there.

Angling Buzz or lindners they are on there own website as well as You Tube. I enjoy them they are straight forward and a variety of species. Otherwise I do not watch much on you tube I would rather fish myself then watch someone else fish😃!. You are correct though you can learn a lot of techniques quick on line.

Smurf I hung out in there so much Ma Pa Shulte treated me like one of there own sons 😀 That was a fun one! always a good mixed crowd.
    • smurfy
Well for all intensive purposes, the first post was related to resorts, opening if fishing in relation to the current situation. Just saying.
    • smurfy
Yea no kidding  both you forgot the river roost and there bands. The pedistrians where awesome.   That is unless you 2 where to wet behind the ears yet!!;😂🤔

Yes a big Thanks to all the insight everyone added to this subject I learned a bunch myself As a Moderator it did get a little tricky at times but discussions like this and fear uncertainty and  anxiety will bring that out with anyone at times . The thread can keep going on if some want to participate.  Its not locked I just felt it was time for myself  to take a break from it.  I guess if I'm allowed to fish somewhere all be allowed to fish somewhere. If not  Ill accept it and Ill fish another day just another stepping stone in life.
    • Wanderer
I can be done too.  Just trying to calm some nerves if possible.  Not looking to argue anything, but share some of what I’ve learned with my FM family.     I’ve learned more from participating in this thread, so thanks to y’all for adding what you have. 😎  Nobody knows everything about this deal.

Dash looks like you hung out in some of my backyard haunts also. Sure you remember Slave Raider in New Munich ballroom 😀 Rock N Roll Buck  Zumhoff use to own the Richmond Collesium! He was quite the character 😂

Who are some of your Favorite Fishing Hunting celebrity's you watch or Subscribe to on YouTube? For fishing hands down I love watching Tom Boley the man is real detailed and informative especially with his electronics and techniques. For hunting I really enjoy The Hunting Public. Just your basic average guys busting tail and getting it done in numerous states all on public land.
