Summer Trip to Wheelers Point area - Help

Recommended Posts

Poutwhacker

I am setting up a fishing trip this summer, out of Wheelers Point. It'll be one of those guided, 3 nights/2 days fishing scenarios. Have not decided on a resort yet. Having been there before, I know the fishing is usually very good, but just wondering if there is a better time of the year for a trip like this. Leaning towards mid July - August. Thanks in advance.

That's historically a great time to fish LOW.

You have to decide what kind of fishing you want to do.  There are resorts/guides that like to downrig and ones that like to baitfish.  Make sure you ask how they fish when you make your reservations.

Typically they jig May through June, then they start to lindy rig or spinner fish July into September. All depends on what you prefer to do. Ballards Resort bait fishes from start to finish but if you want to down rig many others do that starting in July and end sometime in September usually.

The water level is still low but will be coming up after the last heavy rainfall that we got! Cliff

At the hunting shack we put up a pulley and run the winch cable from the 4 wheeler through it and hoist em up.

ps I would be happy to provide closeups of particular areas or the insets on the map.    Especially if they are of your hot spots.

Note to self.  Keep your "Packers Suck" T-shirt in the fishing boat for all future fish pics.   Ties are like head butts, everyone loses.

And this is why you ALWAYS check out FM. I had a crazy busy summer as I worked full time so my weekends and evenings I was always doing somthing and I never just sat down. So I just noticed I missed this great “ goodie” package. Darn!

A chain, a $20-$30 come-along and your set. Wrap chain around rafter hook up come- along and away you go. Been doing it this way for many many years without trouble.

I'll say this. As a Vikings fan, Mrs. Skunked Again was pretty emotionally upset in the 2nd and 3rd quarters. She warmed up a bit when her team came roaring back in the 4th. I don't think either of us would have survived the four hour drive back to MN without a tie.
