I live in the keewaydin 55417 area and the family craves fishing, a lot of the lakes around the area are a bit high pressured it seems as we've been out as far as Lake Elmo, Clear Lake, Vadnais and Lake Peltier but to no avail ( 2-3 hours of fishing with only 1 catch on some days ) on sport fishes. Is there a creek/river/backwater that's accessable for shoreline fishing that's got good fights? I'm down for kayaking too since we have a Jackson Tuna and a F&S Shadowcaster but we don't have an anchor so river kayaking is a no go ( I'm a fairly large lazy dude ) for me.
Our next target area would be Cannon River south 30 minutes of us.
I've been out fishing recently and have been completely skunked from the bank and from a boat using ghost minnow colored squarebills, black jigs with green pumpkin trailers and white paddletails. What would you guys recommend I use from the bank and from a boat?
I moved to Rogers, MN last summer and so I decided I should try out some smallmouth fishing from shore in the rivers around here! Problem is, I struggled to catch any last fall. Before I try again this spring, I am hoping to get some feedback on the spots I am trying. I know there are smallmouth in these fisheries, but maybe these are bad spots?
- Monticello: East and West Bridge Park
- Anoka: Peninsula Point Park
- Anoka: Dam in downtown
- Under the Highway 10 bridge.
These are my main lures I have tried: Chatterbaits, Crankbaits, jigs w/craw, swim-jigs, weightless senko, spinnerbaits
Anyway, any feedback on those spots or if I should try a different approach would be appreciated. Happy fishing all! Weather is starting to get nice finally!
Just figured I’d see where everyone is planning on going Saturday.... I’m from faribault and kayak fish. I plan on hitting up a small quiet lake west of town. I haven’t been on the water yet but I’m guessing water temps are around 50 or just above. How about you??
I’m spending a few days with a friend at the end of June in Litchfield “ covid 19 pending, lol”. He’s a walleye guy and I’m a bass guy. Was looking at hitting up lake Washington for some Smallies/largemouth. I’m guessing it will be late post spawn early summer transition. Any help on locating some good fish? Smallies especially? I appreciate the help.
Hey guys! Went just over the border to Lake Okoboji this past weekend in search of smallies! It was a blast. Water temps were 39-41 degrees. Had to work the crankbaits pretty slow. Caught a nice walleye on a ned rig as well! It was my first time on the lake. I'll be back for sure! Here's a video from my adventure:
With the crazy restrictions on Mille Lacs and the uncertain opener are any of you still planning to fish Mille Lacs? Will you hit other lakes or just going to stay home this summer and hope things get back to normal? The very dedicated Walleye guys are really going to need to adjust or hit other lakes.
Businesses are going to get clobbered.
Sad situation. Hopefully there is something left in 2021.
Fished a small lake up by Togo this weekend. Just a bit in mornings and evenings. First nights crappies but a walleye never bit. Watched a beautiful thunderstorm at sundown that just scraped us a few minutes.
looking to try cut bait for catfishing. Usual use nightcrawlers or stink bait, but am looking to filter the Rockbass and small cats.
I'm gunna buy a couple decoy suckers and use. But am wondering how to humanely kill and cut up? Or do I just cut umm alive while flopping like a serial killer?
Fished the past weekend Norwegian bay. Friday was great with minnows on a Lindy with three nice 18 inch walleyes in 45 minutes around 9pm. Tried same spot Saturday with no marks on sonar. Water temperature 63 degrees and fished in 13-16 feet. Friday night sonar was full of marks. Speed drifting ( 0.5 mph) and a red bead were the ticket Friday but not a bite Saturday. Only difference was a nice breeze blowing in Friday.
