Catting the chain

never cross there.   there is a spot to cross 1 inch north west of there on the small peninsula.   There should be tracks there.  Not sure if you can get a truck over it though.

looks like you need to charge your phone battery.

Yea, definitely don't drive through that narrow spot...always thin ice there. Like Don said, there is a path that goes over the back side of the island that dosent have the house on it.

Anyone been out on Long Lake? I'm assuming the ice is good all over? Anyone catching any cats on Long?

The ice is good out there plenty of vehicle traffic. There has been a fair amount of people fishing cats off the S end bar off the tip and also off the west side of the big Island. There was a crazy amount  of people fishing  the cats on cedar island today and from the sounds of it they were having some success.

Made it out on Horseshoe yesterday.  First time out in 3 or so years, so it took a while to get my bearings. Caught 5 btwn 20-23 inches. Extremely light bite.

Question with regards to permanent houses do you need to have a license on it if you arent leaving it out?

Nice kitty. :)

That’s a good question.  We’ve been so focused on porty’s and wheelhouses I think “permanent” houses that aren’t left out might’ve escaped the requirement.  It’s so rare someone would pull one out and take it back off every time.  They still wouldn’t be able to be more than 200 feet away from it regardless.

What did you see if you don’t mind sharing?  ....or what you planning on doing? :D

I'm pretty sure you need a license on all wheelhouses and permanent fish houses this year whether you leave them out or not.

I was thinking of a wheeled house as a permanent.

Planning on using mine  to take my boys out due to temps and the lack of snow. And just didnt want to get out and get a ticket for no license.

The one thing i did find suprising is how people believe that the ice is a play area for them and their vehicles.

. any permanent house must have a license if left out    If it has wheels it must always have a license to just be on a lake regardless if it is left over night.

So since i was a little confused when i went out there yesterday. Example, i drilled 10 or so holes thinking to potentially range from 20-40ft. Nope i was up on the flats in 5-10 ft. Anyway, usually on my 1st trip out i look for the hole for a referenceas to where to stay away from. But with the lack of snow and cleats i didnt venture around more than where i was drilling. Hoping that i will be able to get out tomorrow.

Lol! Smurfy :) Its not as easy to identify areas like the old days the ice towns in Mertens bay and in front of Steils old house on cedar island aren't there like years of past but she's still the same chain that you grew up on. And IMO better than when we wee younger.

Out at the crappie hole on shoe.  Lots of cat fishing around here.  Seen over 100 on the ice.  Caught a few a donated them to the tourists.  One was over 5 pounds.  If you want cats come on out.  It is 400 yards west of the meth hole.

Finally got out there Saturday after wanting to for almost 10 years! After reading all the pointers on here and looking at maps we gave it a try. Ended up catching around 15 between the 2 of us in about 4 hrs biggest being about 6lbs. Had a blast and will definitely do it again!

Oh and you're not kidding about a lite bite I think only one actually pulled the bobber  under!

Bring cleats.  The bare spots are growing and really slick.
