The boat ramp and harbor parking area at Zippel Bay State Park, on Lake of the Woods in northern Minnesota, will be closed through Sept. 8 for construction projects that will improve park facilities. The area will open temporarily for the Labor Day holiday weekend.

Construction activities will include enlarging and paving the parking lot, bringing in power to light the ramp and parking lot, repairs at the boat ramp and relocating or replacing existing structures. It will also include accessibility updates, installation of vault toilets and stormwater management improvements.

“It is always difficult to close a facility for use during the summer months, but in this case it is necessary, considering the amount of construction that will occur,” said Steve Hennessy, Parks and Trails Division acquisition and development coordinator. “In the short term, it will be an inconvenience, but once completed, visitors will enjoy a very nice facility.”

During construction, the rest of the park will remain open for camping, swimming, hiking, birding and picnicking.

For updates on construction and other information about the park, visit the park’s webpage, or contact the DNR Information Center at [email protected] or 888-646-6367 (8 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday).
