Hey I just moved to New Ulm Minnesota and am in desperate need for some fishing locations.  Does anyone have any recommendations for locations I can fish from shore near New Ulm?

I would move this to the SW forum. Most in that area post there.

You can fish the MN river at both the Riverside park and Minecon Park. Never know what you will catch! Also can fish the Cottonwood, where the Poor farm bridge is, by the GM dealer. Sorry local talk there. I grew up in NU, but moved out years ago.

As far as lakes go, both Sleepy Eye and Hanska have some fishing piers. Mostly by the accesses and parks. Go to Runnings bait and they should be able to also help you out. You have picked one of the places in the state with very limited lake fishing!! Lots of cornfields though!  There are the two Clear lakes near by too, but very spotty for fishing. Swan Lake is just a duck lake.  Most people head up to Hutch or east of Mankato. The MN river does have some big eyes in it and isn't fished all that much, so always potential there.

Good luck!

      Hey y'all,
Gf and I are having a bit of a time finding a lake in the twin cities area (about 30 minutes drive from downtown preferably) for her to go swimming and me to go fishing. Any suggestions or ideas?

Does anyone know of any good shore fishing spots on the Minnesota River in Carver. Not Carver County, but the city of Carver. The river is pretty high right now, so I don't know if that affects anything. I know this one little ledge you can go to once you are inside the campground, and I have seen evidence of people fishing these, given some got a lure stuck to a log in the water with line still attached. And, what kind of lures should I be using. I wanna go for anything, except maybe catfish or muskies, because I don't have the gear for those. I did see a post the other day about shore fishing for White Bass on the Minnesota in Mankato, so would something like that be good for me? I guess my one question would be, let's say I am trying to jig with a soft plastic, how do I "avoid" the current? Thanks for any tips anyone can give me! If not in Carver, than in the nearby area, like Chaska, Jordan, etc.

Looking for some fun easy Shore fishing spots. New to fishing as an adult, only fished when I was 10-13 in scouts. From California having moved to Moorhead Oct 18, just got fishing license for my wife and I.

Bought some poles and gear and just wondering if anyone can point me in the directions of some great spots to fish off shore, as we do not have a boat.

      Thank you.

This summer I am looking to fish Lake Superior from shore this summer and coming fall. I have never fished a lake of this size of for these fish before. How can I make my trip successful? Any tips for beginners? What rod/reel should I get, and what line/rigs should I use? What should I look for when finding a spot to fish? Are there any hot spots I should try in the Duluth area?

Simple question and don't give up your hotspots:
You think crappies will be reachable by shore yet? By this weekend? It's gonna be nice, but a little windy. I'm heading out with the kids and we'll be hitting a few shore spots on different lakes within the same latitudes as the twin cities,  but just outside of the cities. Just curious what you all think based on your findings or experience.

      Hi!
I am up in Minneapolish from Florida and I'm going to explore some of the famous Minnesota lakes with my girlfriend. We decided to go fishing tomorrow at the Minnetonka lake. Neither of us knows much about fishing. I used to fish a little back when I was a kid. Could someone point me to a nice spot where we could sit, relax and catch some fish as well? I am not looking for anybody's amazing spot, just a nice place that has some fish. The trip will be much better if we actually catch something. Also, what kind of fish would we be going for? I imagine I need to prepare the correct equipment. Our point of origin is Woodbury.
      Thank you for any information.

I was thinking of the ramp at Clearwater lake, It's frozen until spring now.

Correct did this for a friend of mine and he's super happy. Clam plate, 6 in Lazar mag bit and I think a 20 v brushless dewalt was the combo if I recall. The Lazar mag is great just make sure it's clear ice, if there's any sand in it the blades dull super fast. I use the two stage chipper blade on my gas as I sometimes fish windswept areas by sand and it works well for reopening holes better than the Lazar mag blades

I'll probably be over that way next weekend. I fished a small lake on the Iron Range today, 5.5" of clear ice. Nothing too exciting, caught a lot of small crappies. Did get to borrow my friends Garmin Panoptix unit, absolutely amazing to locate fish. Someday I'll have that kind of $ 🤣

Sheez it's quiet here. 🙄 any ice reports. Cabin lake had about 4 inches in front of our cabin. We had to chop that much around the dock to get that out.   Our group went  3 fer 5 deer hunting. Going back up for the last weekend.

      Wow that’s a dandy!!!

I can't believe the ice is that thick on the shoe already. There was open water on the spunk lake off 94 in Avon on Friday afternoon

I was busy this last week butchering and killing but thx for the tips on those spots!

I was able to get out for a bit today. Lake had good ice (5-6”) and was able to ice a few nice gills. I did get to drill about 20 holes with the drill/auger setup. Wow is all I can say. Butter smooth and FAST! Very nice, 20 holes and never dropped the battery down one bar. Just pull the trigger and go, no gas no pulling no mess. But I did have a lot of torque to deal with like I expected. The drill did great so I’m going to invest in the clam drill plate and a 6” lazer auger. I have the 8” lazer now so I should have a lot less torque and more holes per charge. As far I know from reading and YouTube the lazer auger (Hand auger) should bolt right on the plate without any other needed adapters?

got home tonight from deer hunting and decided to check the ice.    I had trouble finding a spot to get on the ice since  it has pulled away for the shoreline.    Once I got out on the ice I found 5" of clear solid ice out as far as 100 yards.   Don
