49 to 50 degrees in Big Bay today!

Decent bite of smaller eaters in 29' to 36'.

Boated 25 and kept 12 between 13" and 16".

Cliff

Great news! What'd you have them going on primarily Cliff?

49-51 in Daisy and into Big this afternoon. Spent most of my day getting the boat ready and in the water. We'll get more fishing in tomorrow.

48.6 degrees in Big Bay this morning.

I heard today that a 33-7/8" walleye was caught and kept in Pike Bay yesterday!

That is a true fish of a life time!

Very windy today and it showed up in the water temps. We went from Pike to Daisy at 2:00 today. Deep in pike I showed 55, dropping to 51 by the time we got to the mouth. Big bay was consistent at 44 until we got close to birch point. Going between birch and moose island it dropped to 41. I think the wind had a nice current going along the point and the deep water was surfacing when it ran into the island. Daisy was 44-46.

I can't imagine what a walleye just short of a yard would look like coming into view.

Saturday Norwegian Bay was 50-51 degrees. After the cold wind the sun showed up and baked it all day Sunday. By Monday afternoon Temps were around 62 with Black Bay reaching 65-66.

We left Tuesday Morning so I'm sure the fishing is suddenly on fire. I'm surprised that when I walk down the seafood aisle in the grocery store that the shelves don't suddenly go bare.

Wow, thats like a 15lb walleye given that length. Wish i could see such a Waldo, too bad they are not part of this forum!

Ely area lakes were showing 69-71 today.  That was a warmer than expected surface temp but I doubt it goes very deep.  Very little spawn activity compared to past years for this weekend.

We had 56 to 58 from Daisy to Canfield Bay to Greenwood. Was 70+ last week. I lost all my minnows due to the warm lake water.

Has the lake stabilized since turnover or is it still in transition ,with these lower temps ? deep bite or still scattered ? Thanks in advance, will be taken off for the fall trip  on big v  early tomorrow morning  !!!

The turnover seems to be done now.

The walleyes are still scattered in some areas and slightly concentrated in the deeper spots.

Cold weather is still affecting the bite though, lots of short, light bites.

Bigger minnows are getting more hits but getting a hook-up is iffy.

I retired 2½ years ago.  My wife finally agreed to move up north after she retires the end of 2021.  When she retires there is nothing that would keep us in the cities.  Blaine has been very peaceful over these turbulent times, but I have a lot of buckshot for my three 12ga shotguns just to be safe.  Anywhere from Barnum to Soudan would be fine for us (easy day trip to Vermilion).  Would go as far west as Grand Rapids.  Would love to live on Vermilion but the prices are just too high now.  Best of luck to you.

      How far north?????🤔😅

Wife just retired. I retire next May. Hope to follow you north before the next round of riots and lotting in Brooklyn Center! 👍

Is it a hard stall like too much pressure that kills it or does it just die out?   The hard stall would most likely be caused by your pump locking up.  A die out would be fuel or maybe even spark, although less likely.   What pressure washer?

Repairing our house in Blaine for sale in the next 2 years so we can move up north.  Duck hunting, fall fishing, and sighting rifles in next week.  Winterizing our place in Soudan also.  Been a great fall for these projects.

I have a power washer that runs for a few minutes and then stalls out.  Can't restart it for hours.  The shop said it was a carb and so I replaced that and it still happens.  I thought it may be a problem with the vent in the gas tank but left the cap loose and it still happened.    Any ideas?   Thanks for your time.   Tom

If I had more time I’d fish between hunting outings but I have to be thankful to have any hunting time right now.  And believe me I slip it in whenever I can.  November will probably be better on that front but I need to keep working when there’s work to do being I’m seasonal now.   Granddaughters birthday today and then some home chores before getting back to work on Sunday till the job is done.   With the calendar migrating divers moving through the state right now I sure feel the urge to be out there!  I guess I’ll have to wait until the late season migration but it could be good!

My brother and dad were on Rice lake by Eden Valley Tuesday. They got one 23 inch walleye and a northern. All returned for the next angler.

I got a 3 day weekend (very rare); so today after my annual physical I spent the afternoon cutting Chinese Elms in the CRP. Was great temperature for it. Probably put boat away this weekend as most landings have docks pulled. Just don’t feel like battling the loading process. Do some deer scouting and maybe clean up the inlaws lawn at the lake. Will try to get the dog in the grass for a rooster also.
