Key sizes for walleyes in the Normark Jigging Raps are #7 & #9. <P>Nils Master Jigging Shads are another good option and available in 2" or 3/8 oz., 2 1/2" or 1/2 oz. and 3" or 7/8 oz. My brother caught a few walleyes on the smallest one when I was up there, but I'd go with the largest one. No way is that too big for the walleyes that you might catch up there. If you're only interested in catching numbers of smaller fish though, maybe the smaller sizes would work better.<P>I'd try the #07 Natural Perch and the #84 Green Perch on LOW.<P>Doug Stange has a pretty good article on them in the Dec 2003 issue of In-Fisherman.<P>Don't forget your camera. <P>

<BR> TEX:<P> Cyrus is a good outfit!listen to the above posts, and also saddle-up that new rod and reel with 8#(1-lb dia)Power Pro line. use a good Fluorocarbon line in 6lb for leader. the Power-Pro gives better hook sets in deep water(no stretch like mono) means more fish for the Ranch Hands back home! Good Luck!<BR>FISHNVET<BR>"KEEP A TIGHT LINE"<BR> P.S. Go with the flow, go with the glow!<BR> <BR>

I will be going to LOTW on the 19th as stated in an earlier post named "help" thanks everyone for your help by the way.<BR>I've been reading a lot about gold jigs glow jigs and Perch colored Raps being the things this year. BUt I haven't read about what size to use I was wondering if anyone could fill me in on the proper size don't want to be too big that they can't fit it in their mouth but don't want to be to small that they can't see it. I was thinking about a 1/4 oz. would be fine but not sure. Also if anyone has stayed at CYrus Resort (where we'll be staying) I would be much abliged if you could give me the lowdown on this place. Is it good for one thing? And how do they work I mean do they take you out to Ice house and such? Sorry for dumb questions like I said before I'm still kinda learning. Being from Texas and all. <BR> THanks in Advance,<BR> Quick

Was up on LOW Dec 27 and 28th. My girl friend and I landed 108 walleye and sauger in 2 days (there were ALOT of little ones). By far and away the hot bait for us was a #7 Orange Jigging Rap. It probably accounted for 75% of those fish. I cut off the two end hooks (I've snagged them on the edge of the hole and on my ice ducer too many times to warrant their existence) and replaced the factory treble with a #6 blood red treble. I picked up those tips out of the In-Fisherman or Outdoor News or MN sportsman or....I get too many **** magazines to keep them straight. To that I affixed just the head of a fathead. And then I worked it VERY aggressively, rarely letting it sit still until a fish appeared on the Vex. We're talking 2 to 3 foot sweeps repeatitively. Once I saw a fish coming in, I'd do a lot more pausing with little twitches to kind of shake that minnow head and its trailing guts (those guts look very enticing in the water). If the fish was hesitant to bite, I'd mix it up by either jigging the rap with a 1 or 2 foot sweep, or just slowly rasing it, or just letting it sit totatly still. Key was whatever it took based on what I was seeing on the Vex. I used a gold Rap last year with similar success. I've got to believe that alot more has to do with the presentation than the actual color itself, at least in my situation. I think that a jigging spoon fished in a similar manner would also produce. But on any given Sunday the mood of the fish can change. The Vex always helps me determine their mood.

What resort were ya out of?<BR>Great report!!

Fishing with Walleye Retreat. They got a small operation but at times that can be a good thing. I've been to one of the larger (or maybe largest) resorts on a number of occasions and with the number of shacks and people they deal with I don't think they can really stay on top of the fish. Since I started going to Walleye Retreat we always seem to have good luck. Pete does a great job of trying to stay on top of the action. They don't have all the amenities like dining or groceries and what not, but they have very nice cabins and fish shacks. Check out <A HREF="http://www.walleyeretreat.com." Made a quick trip before the weekend rush on Vermilion.  Ice was in very good condition.  Didn't see any slush or water on any of the roads out from McKinley Park.  There are plowed roads on both side of the staked snowmobile trail coming out from the landing.  The road to the left goes out toward Birch Island, and there is a spur road going to the left (west) a couple hundred yards out.  The road on the right side goes out toward Ely Island.  There is a short spur road going east about half mile out.   The water came up under my fish house about another 1½ inches when I drilled my holes.  Looks like I will be going back up early next week to block my house up higher.  The small amount of new snow is really drifting up and adding weight.  You may get water on the ice, or find slush if you drill holes in new areas.  There is about 15% bare ice where the wind has blown it off.  Many of the drifts are very high and hard, so you could get stuck on them.   Fishing was average.  Best bites were from 9-10am and 11-1230 when I quit.  Biggest walleyes was only 16¼", then the next biggest was 13.75".  Reporting lengths in quarter inches because I can't seem to find any big walleyes.   Good luck fishing, be careful driving around, and be courteous to others.

That's cute. My mother in law had all those little sayings.  Her favorite was "Life's a betch then you die"  so cheery. 😏
