Here's a few I got the other night... 26.5" and 24". Made the mistake of eating the big one. Think I'll stick to smaller cats from now on. Haha...

GF got her first channel cat last week... It was nice, too. Didn't measure or weight, but I'd guess maybe 6-7lbs?

Got this fatty night before last. Like my old school smelting net? I've been using it because it had a 6ft handle and makes thinks easy in precarious shore scenarios.

Went and tried a new spot... 3 snacky cats. One of them took my rod straight into the river and I had to dive in after it. Good times.

Caught a fatty the other night... 26.5". Looked preggo so I tossed it back. Got it from a bridge at night, was sure it was a 20lb cat until it was out of the water. Somehow snapped a 50lb mono leader at the snell a split second before my buddy got it in the net. Was pretty wild. Cats are way too much fun!

Cats are fun to catch & fight hard, but I have been unable to make them into something truly worth eating.  I grew up catching channel cats in SDakota and there were very good.  The cats out of the MIssissippi in the Little Falls area consistently have a pronounced algae-muck-weedy bad flavor.  Occasionally, some walleyes late summer have the same from this section of the river.

I have tried removing the fatty areas, dark red-colored meat, soaking them in buttermilk for extended periods and other methods to reduce this off-flavor.  Doing each of these has improved them, but not reduced the bad taste significantly or eliminated it.  Does anybody have any other suggestions on how to eliminate this bad flavor?

Teal i have the same experience with cats in the LF area, really the only place i fish for them.  I figured i was just doing it wrong!

I really like the walleyes from this stretch however, never a bad one!

Finally got my oldest son (5 years old) out for his first overnight cat fishing adventure.  I was surprised how well he handled the wait in between bites.  After we caught the first fish he wanted to try and hold it.  Right when he got close to it :wham:, tail slap right in the face.  He thought it was hilarious and so did I!  We managed to catch quite a few fish ranging from 5 to 14Lbs.  He can't wait to go back out.  It's great feeling to see that excitement and be able to share a passion of mine with him.  Looks like I'll have a kitty chasing partner from here on out!!!

Anyfish2...I have had a number of walleyes in the Little Falls area that had the same algae type flavor. This has only been in late summer and is only occasional.  They have tended to be larger in the 20 + inch range. They all had very red colorization in the rib meat area. Basically inedible. I had always thought it was something they were eating. The flavor is identical to the catfish.

I was just thinking since resorts on red were letting people do it on 10 a couple weeks ago it would be good to go.

Good for you! Seems like you got a fair deal. You will have a blast congrats on your new ride.

One of my buddy’s cousins just hauled out his IC 8x17 this past weekend with an ATV. 10” of ice. Personally I wouldn’t yet because of how much money they are but I’m sure you’d be fine.

Is 10 inches good to safely bring an 8x16 ice castle fish house out with an atv. 4300#  I am thinking it is, just want reassurance.

Really, calling me out like that!   Nothing I would rather do than enjoy my kids passions with them.  A rental for two days costs very slightly less than a year of association hockey,  summer camp, and fall hockey.  Family time the whole way.   Little disappointed in the stereotype!

If you have Wifi available I would go with a security camera.  We have four Nest cameras running at our place.  They can be configured to send you a push notification on your phone and/or an email when motion is detected.  You can also view the video feed from your phone, tablet or PC.  My exterior cameras have been up for three years and have worked flawlessly even in -20F temperatures.

First time this year bought a Stealth cam and like it so far. Have used Bushnell with good luck, Brownings with mixed good and bad. Have a really bad Cuddyback. Had a Hawk Ghost cam which I ended up sending back. Ate batteries really fast. Of all I've used, Bushnell had the best pictures.

Had a wild game and never again. Leaked oil all over the sd card. I have stealth cams and they seem to hold up. I have bought some cheap ones from Walmart that are tasco (25-35$) they do a pretty good job for the price. You will be paying 2-300 for the ones that send pics to your phone plus monthly subscriptions. Depending on the island and if you have WiFi wondering if you couldn’t do video motion  that would show on the phone like ring or some of the others. Just some stuff to think about.

That's great.   Are you sure it is a Classic 550 Fan?   I thought the 2000 Sport Touring and Trail Touring were 550 fans and the 2000 Classic Touring was a 500 Liq cooled?  I had a 2000 Sport Touring 550 fan. But I may be wrong?  🤔

Stay away from Wildgame Innovations cameras.  Attractive price points but very low end sequipment and the reliability is very poor.  I have had the best luck with Moultrie.  I have a couple camera fanatic hunting buddies that swear by Browning game cameras.   Thee are cameras that connect to the cell network and that can email you pictures.  Those products have a monthly or seasonal subscription price.
