My brother wants me to update his lx7 this is the first update sinice he bought it. I have a vexliar so there's no updates. Is a marcum pretty easy to update hook it up to computer and let her go? Does it come with a cable like USB to what ever the marcum is?

LX-7 Firmware

 LX-7 Software Update v5.10 (Release Date. Oct. 25th 2016)

Update Procedure

  1. System requirements – PC only computer with 2.0 USB port and a 2.0 USB cable. Do not attempt upgrade without 2.0 port or cable.
  2. Save the LX7main.bin file from the MarCum website to your desktop (do not change the file name or extension).
  3. Plug in a USB 2 cable to your computer. DO NOT plug it into the LX7 display at this point.
  4. Remove the LX7 display from the gimbal
  5. Remove the transducer from the LX7 display
  6. Plug in power to the display from the 12v9amp battery provided with the LX7
  7. Press and hold the down arrow, continue to hold the down arrow then press and hold the power button together until the screen flashes and you see the LX7 logo appear on the screen.
  8. Release both buttons, and listen for the chirping. Chirping will remain consistent. If the unit powers off you have held the buttons down too long.
  9. Plug in the USB cable to the LX7 display (your computer should automatically recognize the external LX7 device). If not go into My Computer and you should see the external LX7 storage device. It could take your computer several minutes to recognize the LX7 storage device.
  10. Warning: If you see a message stating, "this process could perform faster with USB 2". STOP-- you will need to try a different USB port on your computer until you do not receive this message.
  11. Drag the file from your desktop to the external LX7 device that popped up on your computer
  12. Listen for the long steady beep followed by chirping
  13. When you hear the chirping, safely eject using the "safely remove hardware" icon normally found on the bottom right hand corner of the screen of your computer.
  14. Power down the LX7 display using the power button
  15. Replace the rubber USB plug
  16. Reassemble the LX7
  17. Go Fish!

you'll need your own usb cord....but if you have a recent digital camera or something that same cord will fit.  its fairly easy to do.

      Hey guys!
I have an older style marcum under water camera that is black and white and shaped like an older tube TV.  Last winter someone stole the camera part but left the TV.   Does anyone out there have a replacement camera or know where to get one?

I'm planning a fishing trip to Vermilion this summer. It's been many years since I've been up there.
I have the Navionics + app on my mobile devices and have been marking spots that look interesting.  One of the spots I marked was a nice hump surrounded by deep water. There was a big difference between the Navionics Nautical Chart view and the Sonar Chart view. It literally disappeared on the Nautical view but showed on the Sonar View. I then ran the map "update all" and from the Sonar view now it was gone from both views with my marker out in the middle of nowhere.
So I started to look around for other areas that showed a big difference between the two views. (Many areas however do look very similar on both views) I've attached a couple of screen grabs of a spot that has a huge difference. This is on the north side of Pine Island near Matson Island.
The first is the Nautical Chart view, The second is the Sonar Chart View.
I always thought that the Sonar Chart would be the most accurate, they look more detailed, plus according to Navionics the Sonar Chart is "constantly being updated by Sonar Logs contributed by million of boaters."
I'm not really sure if I can trust either?
To anyone who knows this part of the lake, are there really the holes and humps in this area?  One view shows a 52' hole where the other has 15 FOW.
