I was thinking about heading to SUGAR sometime soon, but that is a tough walk from the North access.  Anyone have any reports on the ice thickness, and is it somewhat the same in most areas?  I appreciate the help, I would hate to drive an hour to find out that I need to go elsewhere.  Thanks and be safe everyone.

Used to fish Sugar when my parents owned a cabin and no problem with access.  Later I would always "ask" a landowner who lived on the lake for permission to walk and access.  Worked well.

8 " from the holes I drilled this morning by the the south access.   There has been 1/2 ton trucks out there, but not mine.

I found around 10 ish on the North side. If your driving an hour to fish Sugar, you are probably driving past some better lakes. Fishing has been tough out there lately.

Thanks guys for the info.  I drive about 45-60 minutes and usually fish a few lakes in that area, but wondering about sugar is all.  I have to look into another lake or 2 as well.  Thanks again.

6-11 inches where I’ve been lately, nice mix of sunnies and crappies. Look for green weeds (still standing) along a break, it seems like they are just cruising along the outside edge of the weeds. A small Glow Fire-tiger Northland spoon and 3 white maggots have been my go to out there... make sure to release the bigger crappies and sunnies so they can reproduce.

Was out on Sugar last Friday night and found a consistent 20 inches of ice. One walleye but it was a start on a new lake. Lots of structure to fish there. Anyone familiar with the lake? Not looking for hot spots just want to know if there are springs or sketchy spots to stay away from.

JerryH Welcome to the forum and thanks for the update.

Sugar can be a pretty tough lake to find the eye's in.

No springs that I know of and after this week I would think you could go just about anywhere.  But, I use a sled.  good Luck.

We fish there in the boat and the water is so clear it looks like you could drink it. Hard to believe something surrounded by all the farms with water that clean...I always figured it was spring fed. I have better success on other lakes but sure plan to put some more time on the water there.
