Been quiet here as of late,

my question is, if you were to use one tactic this time of year to boat some walleyes on the chain what would it be?  Spinner and crawler, crankbait, bobber and leech?  What would it be?  And would you focus on deep water or current areas?

Thanks everyone

Weed edges trolling a number 5 or 7 shad rap. Live bait rigging can also be effective, but you will get a few cats while doing this. Another way to put 'eyes in the boat this time of year is pulling cranks over the deep basin areas. Pick baits that run in the 10-18ft range and troll over the deeper areas, watch your graph for schools of suspended baitfish. I have done very well in years past working these suspended walleyes. They tend to be very aggressive when you find them suspended over deep water, they are there for only one reason....food.

Rick - Great advice.  I stumbled across this board looking for advice on fishing the chain.  I've been heading up to the chain for years during August.  Not the greatest time of year for fishing walleyes and I've always been interested in what anglers have found to work for trying to catch a few.  Until recently I wasn't sure how good walleye fishing was in the chain and I come to find out they even stock walleye every few years!

Noska - Awesome seeing you had some recent success.  Gives me hope to find a few during my annual visit to the chain later this month.

Good eye noska.

Crankbaits do rule this time of the year, but targeting weedbeds during low light periods, or during optimum weather conditions with bass fishing tactics can produce BIG TIME. Brake out a 1/2 oz. spinnerbait with a bulky trailer, and probe the thick edge sometime. Texas rigged lizards rigged weedless, also work well
