Having surgery for a labral and bicep tear on my right shoulder. Was wondering if anyone has had a similar surgery and how long your recovery time was, before you were able to shoot and pull back a bow.

I have had both my shoulders done, in a short time. If you are just having one done, a couple months if you stick to rehab. I was down a full season, since I had to have my left shoulder done 2 times, and my right shoulder done 3 times. Just dont plan on shooting 80 lbs this year, back it off, and try to just shoot at 50 lbs. Practice but dont shoot more then 30 arrows 1-2 times a week. Then next year bump up poundage, and reps if you desire.

After 5+ years, I am still shooting at 55 lbs, and I am lucky if I can shoot 30 arrows in a day. But after all of the surgeries, I struggle with pulling it back.

Thanks for responding. I Had the surgery on Wednesday. Don't think I'll be hunting anything this year. Doc said it will be December before I'm even back working.

Sorry to hear you will miss a season PigHunter. Think you could use a crossbow with shooting sticks. My Dad is having his rotator cuff worked on in a week and seeing he had the other one done 9 years ago. He said he will not be able to use his bow and I told him to get a crossbow permit for this season. He talked to his Dr and is going to have crossbow permit for at least this year.

Will probably get a crossbow. It's hard to justify spending $300-$500 on one and only use it for a year though.

Look used, I consider a crossbow, and I could still get a Dr's note to use one, but the way I look at it is, once my bow is sited in, I really only need to draw it back one time all fall.
