Will be up in the Schroeder area the weekend of July 10, 11, and 12, and was just wondering if anybody had any input on any lakes or rivers to fish for either smallmouth or walleyes from shore. Wouldn't mind getting into a few smallmouths on a river being I don't get to fish them real often being from Southern MN but wouldn't mind a couple eyes to keep for a meal. If anybody has any input or ideas it would be much appreciated! Feel free to PM if you don't feel comfortable posting spots for everyone in the world to see. Thanks in advance.

Pickin's are pretty slim in Schroeder. There's a few lakes where you can catch trout from shore, Echo and Hogback. Ninemile Lake has walleyes, but I believe it's pretty shallow at the access, so there isn't much for shore fishing. Crooked lake is supposed to be good for smallies and walleyes...even has a few muskies! Although it's a small boat launch, and I don't even think there's a dock there, so again, might not be so good for shore fishing. Best bet would be to drive up to Lutsen and head up the caribou trail. Caribou Lake is shore friendly at the access, have caught lot's of bass and pike, and a walleye or 2 from the access. There's a handful of other lakes off the trail that are easy to shore fish as well.

Thanks for the input.. I was doing a little research last night and kind of figured it was pretty slim pickin's around that area.. My brother in laws dad has a cabin on Caribou Lake and has a boat there and canoe so I may just go that route or bring my kayak up and find a lake somewhere. Thought about bringing my boat up but doesn't really seem logical as I'll probably only have a few hours here and there to fish if I'm lucky.

If it's calm, it would certainly be worth checking out all the river mouths at Lake Superior.  Your kayak would be very helpful in that department.

If you have a limited time to fish you can cast spoons into Superior.

Thanks guys, I actually looked at the wrong dates. It will be the 17th-20th that I'll be up there. I think I may go the casting spoons route due to the possible limited time but there's always time to do a little fishing, right!?
