Hello everyone.  Long time lurker, very few posts.  I have lived in the Richmond now for 3 years and spring and summer walleyes on the chain has been a challenge.  I fish Lake Koronis and Rice and do pretty good but the chain is a total different story.  The fall and winter have been good.  I have caught quite a lot of sub 13" eyes this year but nothing over 16".  I know the fish go up the Saulk to spawn but when do they come out into the lake?  Has anyone been up river lately and how far do you go?  I used to fish the St Croix quite a bit and I have had a bad experience fishing the shallow part of the river and I am hesistant to head to far up the river.  How far up the river can I go with a 16' boat?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Right now I wouldn' t go much further up river than the Co rd 111 bridge. There is a resident walleye population in the river, but almost all the "lake" resident fish have since moved back to the lakes they inhabit for most of the year.  Down rier is another option, lots of good holes through out the system. I would focus more on the lakes and weedbeds and rock bars and points through out the summer.

July/August are the toughest months to fish Walleye on the chain due to huge amounts of baitfish/mayfly larva available for them to eat during this time so basically the fish are full and not interested in chasing a bait.  Your best chance for a larger fish is to focus on deep water structure and fish slow.  The last few weekends we've had great success with simple livebait rigs jigged/dragged slowly.. Biggest Walleye was 28"
