I've never done the portage, and I'm curious. How much does it cost each way? How long does the portage take? Do they have good trailers? My boat doesn't leak, and I want it to stay that way. I can envision popped rivets if the boat just sits on a flat trailer.

h8go4s,

I have done the portage thing many times.  The cost is $40 round trip.  They use a large flat trailer that has two big slings that hold your boat in place.  My current boat is a 18.5 foot lund Tyee and it portages just fine even fully loaded for a 5 day camping trip with the family.  Never had an issue, just watch that you dont drive too far up on the trailer where you could scratch up your transducer

If you have a marine radio, you can call them on channel 12 and request a portage from either direction and they are usually waiting for you at the landing.  The portage takes about a total of 10 minutes.  There is gas available on both ends.

If you havnt run the river from the hotel down to the main lake, you may want to follow a boat the first time.  It is a neat ride with lots of curves and a couple narrow spots out to Surveyor Island.  PM me if you need more detailed info.

Thanks, Xplorer. I have the Lakemaster Woods/Rainy card on my HB 898, so that should help.

Off to Manitoba today for a week, then to Namakan for 5 days when we get back. I might do the portage then just for a day trip.
