I fished a full day Sat and a half day Sun with my wife, my mother-in-law, and my sister-in-law. We only caught a dozen or so fish on Sat- very tough going. Fished in 30.5 feet out on Adrian's road. I did manage to catch a 25.5 and a 29.25 tough- very fun. I wish one of the gals would have latched into those fish, but I guess God smiled on me for taking the gals out.
We did better on Sun, numbers wise. Kept 14 and put back a dozen or so smaller ones. Nothing big, but nice eaters.
Scoot

We just got back from Gibbins and Bryant and Jason are two of the hardest working guys I know. On Saturday we got out about 8ish and found lots of fish who were biting very lightly. By 5pm we had 8 keepers and 35 throw backs, not to mention the 50 or so bites that didn't get hooked. We ended up with the most success on a plain red hook. After only catching 2 pouties during the night bite we hit the hay and awoke to a nice brisk -20 (but it seemed like a warm -20). On Sunday the fish we even less willing to bite, we ended up catching 3 jumbos and 1 toothy that was around the 30" mark. That fish had made his rounds to at least 1 other house as he had a large teardrop hook in it's mouth. Many thanks go out to the boys at Gibbins and we are planning another trip for late February with them. The boys have only been in business a short period of time but you could never tell. They definitely had their act together and knew what was going on. Bryant, we'll be calling you this week about the end of February and we'll get you guys a picture of you and Jason with the pouty.

Scoot we were out Thursday and Friday and did very well both days. Caught 50 fish each day and brought back a limit of nice fish mostly saugers but they were big ones. We fished the very east side of Pine in 29 feet of water almost on the Canadian border. Used a glow bubble gum forage minnow 1/8 ounce spoon and a Hali with a 3 inch dropper glow pink hook and shiner. Good Times!
Milkdud!

Thanks for the reports Guys!
Nice fish Scoot. I am waiting for the Fish Gods to smile on me one of these days too.
I am headed for Gibbins on Friday with my oldest daughter. I can't wait. I can sit back and relax this time and let my buds Bryant and Jason do the work grin.gif.

Hey MilkDud...
What happens if you fish the Canadian side? Are you subject to their fishing regs? The 2003 MN Fishing Regulations book says..."MN-Canada Border Waters: Anglers who have a Minnesota (resident or non-resident) license may fish only the Minnesota portion of Canada's border waters"...
I suppose that just answered my question!!-- Andy "haven't been to LOTW" Kotz

Not only do you need to have a Ont. lisence, but you also need to have a border crossing permit to go into Canada by water.
Dud, when we gonna meet up up North? I'll be up next the weekend of the 24th.
Scoot

Scoot, I will check my schedule maybe I can meet you up there that weekend? I have been doing pretty good each time I have been up so I am always looking for a reason to head up to LOW and do some fishing.
Milkdud!

Yes, you need to stay on the Minnesota side if you don't have a Canadian fishing license. That is when the GPS comes in handy!

Made a quick trip before the weekend rush on Vermilion. Ice was in very good condition. Didn't see any slush or water on any of the roads out from McKinley Park. There are plowed roads on both side of the staked snowmobile trail coming out from the landing. The road to the left goes out toward Birch Island, and there is a spur road going to the left (west) a couple hundred yards out. The road on the right side goes out toward Ely Island. There is a short spur road going east about half mile out. The water came up under my fish house about another 1½ inches when I drilled my holes. Looks like I will be going back up early next week to block my house up higher. The small amount of new snow is really drifting up and adding weight. You may get water on the ice, or find slush if you drill holes in new areas. There is about 15% bare ice where the wind has blown it off. Many of the drifts are very high and hard, so you could get stuck on them. Fishing was average. Best bites were from 9-10am and 11-1230 when I quit. Biggest walleyes was only 16¼", then the next biggest was 13.75". Reporting lengths in quarter inches because I can't seem to find any big walleyes. Good luck fishing, be careful driving around, and be courteous to others.

That's cute. My mother in law had all those little sayings. Her favorite was "Life's a betch then you die" so cheery. 😏
