Hey guys, as Christmas in May is soon upon us, I'm trying to see what the river conditions are like. Has anyone been out "crappie" fishing that can give a report on level, clarity, current, etc?

From a previous post, I saw Island Lake didn't look too swell, so hoping the river will be in better shape this year than last.

Thanks,

Mojo

Second hand info here, a guy I know said he was out near the last of the ice in 18 feet of water slammin' crappies with his dad and brother. He "claimed" they caught 200 one day, all legit fish. All kept their limits only. Pretty honest guy. So if ya happen to know where they are on the river system, they're still around. BC

Water levels are pretty decent and a little higher than average. I would say its at about the same level as it was last summer. Since we haven't had much or runoff this spring the water is pretty clear (or as clear as it gets in the harbor) and, likewise, the currents are pretty low too.

Talked to a warden today who was watching some "crappie" fisherman. Said they fished for 6 hours and caught nothing. This was upriver of the boy scout landing. Sounds like they were fishing in a less than desirable area, but he didn't think the walleye fishing would be bonkers. Also, said the water is down/low. Again, second hand.

You would think that warden would have something more productive to do then watching somebody fishing crappies for six hours.

My rain gauge in Carlton had 1.75" from Monday and Tuesday and another 3/10 today. Can see it out in Superior already.
