Hello:

I am looking way ahead to next year already trying to plan a smallmouth trip.

I love to fish jerkbaits so I want to try to hit late prespawn when fish are still staging. If possible I would like to miss the spawn entirely. I just don't like to have to fish for bedding fish.

So first question is how busy is the lake the week of Memorial day? That is appealing since it would take less vacation time and should definitely be prespawn. But if the lake is less busy or the fishing potentially better a little later then I dont mind taking more vacation time the following week or two.

I know timing the spawn is difficult to predict from year to year so I am just looking for general trends. If we get a hard winter or early spring then I will adapt accordingly.

Thanks in advance for any suggestons.

Memorial days a pretty good bet,the best advice you can get if you are looking for smallies is to fish the Canadian side. For less than a hundred bucks you can get your rbcp, and the license. We put in at Bowmans landing then shoot straight north ,or we put in at the park and head out east.Call me if you like 18003288435 ,I can fill you i.

Thanks for the response.

I will give you a call mid June and see how your spring went and figure out a game plan for next year.
