i really want to target smallies this year. When is usually the best time to catch them big ol females..

I like early June myself. I get them up in the shallows still with tube jigs.

I plan on heading up on saturday for the opener and with how warm this year has been i think the fishing will be pretty good. Ill start out with jerkbaits and some tubes by creeks or shallow rocks.v Ill post how I do.

There are plenty of smallies hanging out around docks, and in the rocks in the three to five foot depth range. This cold and rain could slow them down a bit though.

Good luck !

If it wasnt for this rain I'd be expecting a great day but like you said it might slow it down. I was planning on fishing between liberty and isle but that is the southeast side of the lake. I've been debating going in on the north west side to find some warmer water.

Don't over think it, go to the north side of the smaller bays in the areas you were planning on fishing, they arent gonna move across 30 miles of water for warmer water
