So, I have to ask the easily answered but burning question. Can I shore fish the Minnesota side of the St. Croix for the Wisconsin opener or how does that work?

WELL The answer is simple YES you can, but I would pick up or download the reg book from the DNR, because if stopped by an officer there is no argument when or if found in violation of something, you can't say I was told or I heard from some stranger. if you have the FREE booklet from the DNR available when you purchase your license, also good rule of thumb is to page thru and read about the NEW rules for the current year.

Not to state the obvious, but you also must have a Wisconsin license.

I would not fish from the MN shore as I do not think that is legal. I read the regs and it does say you can fish "shore to shore" but it doesn't touch on shore fishing.

It is legal, and you can also use 2 lines, and you do not need a WI license. You can also fish the WI side with just a MN license.

False. You do not need a Wisc license.

MN DNR Regs indicate:

St. Croix River opens May 2, 2015

6 (15" minimum size for walleye)

He's asking about the Wisconsin opener, which I guess is the same as the MN opener on the river, so, you are correct. He does not need a WI license.

my point made, get YOURSELF A FREE reg book then you can make the choice/decision on what to do. Folks right here may have steered you wrong and YOU would have to pay for it.

If a Minnesota resident You must have a Minnesota license to fish the river if you only have a non resident license you will be in violation.

Great Point. Ignorance is no excuse. MN res. MN license, WI res. WI license, but if you are from another state, like NY, or AZ,or any other state that doesn't border MN/WI, either non-res. license will do.

I have a Minnesota resident lifetime sports and firearms deer. Bought them one week before I closed on Wisconsin house. I made sure this was legal by calling dnr 2 times, each time talking to a different person and after reading the regs to make sure it was legal. I am a Wisconsin resident and only "buy"my MN Resident lifetime sports and have been checked 4 times on the river by both Mn and Wi dnr. Always been legal.
