I am about 35 days out from a trip to Rainy. Bringing about 10 guys up. We are going to be fishing the North Arm and fishing mainly for bass. But will also be targeting walleye for some camp meat.

My question is with the ice going out so early and the water temps seeming to be a long way ahead of where they usually are, what do you guys think the bite will be like for both species??

My thoughts are bass will be shallow and in all stages of pre-spawn, spawn and post-spawn. Game plan is topwaters, senko, and some of the other stuff we have caught them on in the past.

Walleye will be shallow too and hopefully just run into some of them while bass fishing, but have some leeches on jig heads to drag around and hopefully find some if we are coming up empty while bass fishing.

Thanks in advance for advice and suggestions.

Just circling back to see if anyone can give any thoughts on what things will look like in 3 weeks.

Do you think the bass will still be in prespawn?  Presentations that will be working??

Thanks for any replies and suggestions.  Just trying to make sure we don't leave anything at home that we need to bring.

i was there 2nd week in June last year northwest arm and did well on bass, walleye and pike. For the bass, we didn't find the spawners til last day but that one day made it worth the search. The small walleye were numerous in areas of what I called "neck downs" possibly current there. The pike we would target on top water in the evenings. Heading back again this year first week in June. Looking forward to it, only 2 more weeks...

I am hoping for the same this year.

The water level on the lake has come up . I think you will be just fine ,it looks like it is going to be a normal spring. The fish should still be feeding ,getting ready for the spawn when you get here.

I forgot to mention we have also done well in the spring just trolling flicker shads on main lake sides of islands. Often catching bass and walleye in same areas doing this. We use the light green perch colored or black/silver ones to do this. I think they are size 5 or 6. Had success with this technique all day long, even at noon. I think the deeper approach gets them moving in or out. Then of course you get the surprise pike as well.
