Humminbird 597ci HD di

Question

Posted

Took the boat out this weekend to make sure everything was in working order before opener. I find my humminbird 597 ci HD di won't show the bottom contour in 2D mode unless I turn the sensitivity all the way up. Works fine in down imaging and in GPS. I checked the transducer and it's positioned correctly. I reset everything to default still nothing. I've had the unit for almost 2 years and it's been great up until now. Any input would be great!

Have you checked to be sure the transducer is clean? Maybe something (sludge or whatever) is blocking the signals. What about filter settings? Beyond that, it sounds to me like it could be a problem with the transducer itself or the unit.

The transducer itself is clean. I tried all the settings I could think of, restored to default twice and tried other settings. I just can't seen to find any helpful Info on this issue elsewhere. I have emailed humminbird but have yet to get a response

Maybe a loose connection...?

I wish it was that simple. I unplugged the transducer from the head unit. Same results

Have you inspected the transducer cable for kinks or other damage?

I would say the next least expensive alternative is to start with replacing the transducer and go from there.

I've inspected the amount of wire that is exposed. Not the section that is run behind the side panels or under the dash. I'll take a look at that! Last night I get a double check of position of the transducer and it is level with the bottom of the boat. Maybe try tipping the trailing edge down a hair? I don't know haha. I'm tempted to go buy a new transducer and see if it solves the problem.

Upon inspection of the entire length of wire I did not notice any cuts or kinks. Only has a small blemish about 5inchs down from the connector where it may have rubbed slightly when the head unit is swiveled or tilted. Still no reply from humminbird! Getting alittle antsy to get this fixed!

Have you done a software update? I have the same unit and it acted the same way 2 years ago. Updated the software and worked like a dream last year. Just a thought.

I've done one software update to version 6.640. But I haven't updated since then. I know there is a new update out for it. It's something to try! I did hear back from humminbird but got a real generic response. Sent them another Email. I'll try the software update before I decide to go buy a transducer

Hummingbird Customer service wasn't much help unless I was interested in sending the transducer and head unit in to them for repair. This close to opener I think I'll take a chance and buy a transducer and install the recent update and hope for the best!

When it comes to electronic equipment that isn't out of the ordinary. There's very little that the end-user can do short of what you've already done. From here it gets into circuit testing or in some cases it may be lest costly just to replace the circuit board.

I hear ya bob. The way I'm thinking i have a few choices. 120$ for a transducer that if it does not solve the problem I can return. Or humminbird will repair for a flat rate of 240$. I hope it's transducer related!! Lol
