BearHead in Mid-May

I will be up on Bear Head in mid-May....I was wondering about bass on the lake....I heard there are largemouths but no smallies?

Is that true?

In either case, any pointers?

A couple yrs ago I went there with pops and my brother. May 17, it had a normal ice out that yr if I remember correctly. Hit that bay with the beaver dam, it had some bass. Fun stuff though, nice log piles near shore, that is where we hit many 2 to 3.5 lb bass on my favorite rig, unweighted senkos from christophersons. Sixish yrs before that we hammered nice sunfish off some point. However last time the sunfish and crappies were super skinny. Got a couple eyes but I heard you should go there in late august and you'll do well for big eyes. Go to the dnr site and check out the cheap screen cabins. 40$ / night but they book quickly. Fun area, much wildlife, awesome fishing lakes within half n hr
