Hey Jeremy,

have you ever fished or heard of anyone catching suckers on the horseshoe chain in the river anywhere? i often cast off the dock at home in the river with a plain lindy rig with about a 3/8 weight and plain hook with a gob of worm for cats. is this the same presentation you're using for suckers? thanks

Hey Kemp,I'm not too familiar with that area on the horseshoe chain.

I hit alot of spots all around the area but not much down that direction.

My personal setup is pretty basic and easy for sucker fishing.

Hook, split shots & half crawler. You can use many types of sinkers but I find this one to be more effective than the rest on the river for me.

For the heck of it, I put a little visual aid if that helps any.

You can choose what size and color works for you.I stick with [#4 Gamakatsu hooks]

The bright colored ones you see are most productive in my own experience for sucker fishing.

It works....

Thanks Jeremy. How far do have the hook from the sinkers?

Hey Moose,

Have you got out on the river lately?

I like them 12"-14" from the hook to the weight. That's what I usually do.

Some guys place them a bit further apart which works too.

People have there own preferences I guess. Not sure there's really a wrong way Havnt experimented much more than 16" apart.

But yeah going back to the answer [12"-14"] works well.

Kemp, there are suckers in the river. Harder to target though because of all the cats. Would probably try shallow er during the day on a current break with only a single crawler or even half. As Jeremy mentioned, a lot of different set ups to use ....use what ya got or are most comfortable with. Biggest key seems to try to balance keeping it light enough so the fish don't spit it back out and heavy enough to keep it place in the water. Split shot is a nice easy way of doing this without having to re-tie. I also use a lot of smaller gumball type jigs as well....they kind of function like a circle hook in that the fish often lip hook themselves without any gut hooking.
