Our family will be camping up there over memorial day. What can i expect in the way of fishing? is it worth dragging the gear along if so what should i be looking for species wise and lakeside? riverside? Never stayed up there so this will be completely new to me, any info would be great, thanks

I see a few people fish at Gooseberry every once in a while. It seems more people head a little further up and fish where the Split Rock River hits lake Superior. More than likely you'd catch Kamloops. You could try casting spoons or an egg sac rig.

hike up the river above the big falls and fish brookies.

thanks for the info, light spinning gear? egg sack?

Light spinning gear will work fine . Spawn sacks are worth a try. I personally find it hard to beat a angle worm, or two, for brookies.and the price is always right.

If you are able to spend any time inland , there are many smaller lakes in the area that could give up a few Walleyes.

as said a chunk of worm or little spinners like mepps. Make sure you read up on the regs. I normally carry a small box with few hooks and sinkers and 3 mepps spinners. I would not waste the money on spawn just use worms and spinning tackle is good.

Water flow makes a lot of difference. If it's high, give the outlet a try with a bobber and crawler rig at the edge of the mud line. Otherwise head up above the falls for brookies as others have advised.

I hope you have a reservation. Don't expect to find a campsite without one unless you arrive a couple of days before the weekend.

THanks for the advice guys, yep all reserved and ready to go, just hoping for a warmish weekend for the kids and hopefully some good hikes and alittle fishing.
