Went to check out the cabin yesterday and when leaving, took a swing thru Morris Pt. The fairly stiff north wind pushed all the ice to the south side, but it's quite jumbled and broke. Like Curt said, the next south wind should make it disappear. And WOW!! Is it low! A big dump of rain is much needed.

I will be getting ready this weekend. Need to prep the ice gear for storage and get the boat out. Can't wait!!!

Pretty much just scattered ice chunks out there this morning as far as I could see. I think today will be the end.

The MN DNR officially declared ice out on 04/30/2015. Looks like vman11 guessed it right. Good work!

Vman...How'd ya know?

Well, it was a really scientific, in-depth study that made it all happen.

We first drilled some core samples in March and sent them to the USCG for analysis. That told us how dense the ice was.

Then we conference called with WDAY's John Wheeler and KVLY's Hutch Johnson and analyized the long-term forecast against the USCG's data.

And THEN I figured the river was about 3 weeks ahead of last year, and estimated about 3 weeks back from the lake ice out in 2014. And sense that fell in around the end of April, I figured it would make the most sense to guess the ice out on my dad's birthday, 4/30, you know, like picking Powerball numbers?

So all in all really dumb luck. smile Don't anyone get their hopes up I'll guess it correctly next spring grin
