Crews Rescue Man Floating on Ice in St. Croix River

Crews from Minnesota and Wisconsin rescued a man who was floating on an ice floe on the St. Croix River on Tuesday.

Washington County Sheriff William Hutton said no one should be on the ice; it is not safe after all the warm weather.

Hutton said "people don't understand the resources that have to be used" when making a water rescue.

The piece broke off north of the Interstate Highway 94 bridge and floated to the south side. Someone on the shore saw the incident and called 9-1-1 in Wisconsin. The bridge connects Hudson, Wisconsin, and Stillwater, Minnesota.

A boat was used to rescue the man. He was not hurt.

Stillwater Fire Department and St. Croix County Sheriff's Office assisted.

Anybody that's out on the river with this warm weather recently needs to be captured, and detained for a 72 hour mental health assessment!

Whoa! That takes some seeds. I was up fishing on Big Clam Lake the Friday before last and I knew that was my last time fishing because even though there was 3 feet of ice, it took about a 1/3 of the time to drill through it than it normally does. And the landing was getting wiped out fast.

Boy, that's one heck of a bridge! Wonder how the new Hwy 36 bridge is getting around this bridge?? When did this one get built? Wonder why they didn't just build it straight across the river from Lakeland to Hudson?
