Daisy Bay cleared today! When that west wind kicked up, it didn't take long. I drove out to the end of Birch Point this evening and as far as I could see, the ice(what's left of it) is on a straight line from Jackrabbit Island NE to Pine Island. That line is ~ 2/3 of the way to Potato looking from Birch Point. Everything west of that line is wide open! I'm pretty sure you could take a boat from Everett's Bay all the way over to Shamrock with no problem. The way that west wind is still howling, I wouldn't be surprised if it totally cleared this evening!

Good Fishing,

Burntside is abut 95% open, and what ice remains should be gone by this time tomorrow.

Never saw ice that thick go away so quickly, I was driving an ATV on it one week ago, Saturday.

70 degrees and strong winds can work miracles

The ice did leave quickly this year. I drove snowmobile across Vermilion just 6 days before the ice was all gone.

What's the status of Big Bay, the last bastion of ice?

This is the west end today, looking north to Birch Point from the web-cam.

It looks like 2015 Ice Out occurred on April 18th. Is there an official ruling? MN DNR Ice Out webpage has yet to declare.

Officially April 18th...It's been reported on the DNR website.

My March 17 guess of April 16 was pretty good (or lucky considering the weather at the end).

I'm still betting that the ice comes back, the walleye stop spawning, and the second ice out/spawn happens right around opener again! grin

Sure looks like that may happen today!

Don't know what it is like up there, but it was spitting snow in Rochester today.

We had a little flurry that didn't amount to anything in Chaska as well.

Snow on the ground this morning and still snowing now crazy, maybe an inch on the ground or more.
