V Gold. What does the bay look like?

Don't forget that there are a number of webcams looking at the lake, if you want to watch it melt in real time.

About 30ft of open water around the north side of Daisy today.

72 Degrees today and a great ice melting forecast for the rest of the week smile

I would assume Oak Narrows is fully open? Does lake ice ever invade the narrows? I guess what is typical from Timbuktu to Smart Bay?

Thanks!

Rode the snowmobile from Stuntz Bay to the Trout Lake portage Saturday afternoon (April 11). The only significant open water I found then were around a few points going behind Pind Island, and the last two narrows before Portage Bay were open half way across. With Sunday's very warm and windy weather, I wouldn't have wanted to make the trip then. The ice was really weakening around the boathouse in Stuntz Bay yesterday. I think the lake will be clear sometime between my original estimate (April 16) and my second guess (April 24).

I'm thinking the docks may be down by the weekend.

I drove around Pike Bay this evening and it was wide open from the Hatchery to as far as Whisky Island! The East half of the bay past Whisky was full of open leads and ice piling up on the East shore.

The Pike Narrows appears to be wide open also.

I did not check out of the McKinley Park area today. I will take a look there tomorrow.

JKrash, Thanks for the photos. Where on Vermilion is this?

Only about 1/3 of Pike Bay left to open as of noon today!

Big Bay is still iced over out from McKinley Park but the ice is very black.

JKrash, Thanks for the photos. Where on Vermilion is this?

We're at the end of Birch Narrows looking towards Smartz Bay.

Does anybody know what it looks like out of Glenwood Lodge? Wondered if it is open to Pine Island from there yet?

Posted

There is a very good chance that the ice is off through the narrows on the East end of Pine.

Niles Bay is opening fast today - lots of open water

Anyone think Big Bay will be ice free this weekend?

Thanks

I'm thinking the docks may be down by the weekend.

Do you ever get ice from Smart crashing into your docks? I am curious how Oak Narrows compares. Last year we had dock damage on a permanent.

I assume Oak opens even sooner than birch? Timbuktu to the wide spot in the narrows. Thanks!

Pike Bay is clear of ice!

There was about a 30 yard stretch of open water out from McKinley. There also appeared to be open leads out towards Potato Island and a couple of pressure ridges that were piling up out there also!

I think that Big Bay will be open within a week from today!

Thanks Cliff.

Anyone have news on Head-o-Lakes ice out? Both webcams show open water but it's tough to tell if it goes all the way through to the islands. If no word in a bit, I guess that I'll let you all know later this afternoon if I can't make it through!

Posted

Based on the Webcams, i'd say we're looking at ice out tomorrow or Sunday.

Posted

Looking at the webcams right now, I don't see any ice anywhere. Wow that went fast!

Frazer Bay is ice free as far as I can tell. With the big winds I can't believe anything would last past today.

Clear between Head o Lake and Wakemup. Yahoo
