I would be willing to bet this website alone puts more people out there than social media and marine general combined. This thread has almost 21,000 views. I just wish people wouldn't trash the lake like they have been. It's sad.

Cohos fight with all of their might until you get them in. Not to mention the scales falling off when handled. I will not release a coho as I'm certain it won't make it. If I get my limit I'm done.

I'm thinking of going out after the ramp opens, driving from Buffalo up to jump on so-so ice. not very open to that idea.

3 of us were the 1st ones at the Brighton Beach parking lot this morning.

This was my first time ever fishing the big lake on ice.

We set up in about 45' of water and had to use our headlamps from the get go, yes we were that early. LOL

We graphed LOTS of schools of fish coming through right from the get go, but could only put 2 coho's and a herring on the ice. As the morning went on we saw less and less on the graphs.

Around 9:30 am my buddy and I headed out to 80+ feet and tried for about 2 hours for lakers. We had a few that would chase from bottom up to about 10' off the bottom and then cruise back down. Frustrating.

We pulled the plug about 2:30 pm.

It was a very fun, yet nerve racking experience.

I won't be going back out there till hopefully next winter, IF we get ice again.

If a guy was thinking about going out tomorrow morning one last time, which area would the majority of you think is the safer? Brighton beach or off 21st ave. I know it is dangerous right now but what area is safer?

Wife took a picture yesterday of the ice near 21'st. It appears to be translucent. My guess is it should be gone very soon. Sketchy to say the least. My advice? Don't go. Not sure about Brighton. BC

I wouldnt go out either but 21st would be a better bet than brighton. I know guys are catching fish off Wi. Point and that ice is more stable but not for long with these temps. Ill be staying inland.

WI POINT is not all that much better, the shore line is breaking up and is Dangerous! I wouldnt go there either. Big Lake is probably closed for the season. If you must get out, driv 90 minute to Chequamegon Bay. But I would check in with River Rock to get word first, because that ice is also probably close to being dangerous. You are nuts to try and fish the lake from this point on....my opinion....

Like I said before, it doesn't matter what you say or try to warn others, there will be people out there until the bitter end when they have to be rescued or escorted off the ice by the Duluth Fire Department.

While I do believe it is not wise, there are some anglers out again this morning. Statewide near record highs forecast for today. Crazy second week of March we are having.....

On that note...who thinks it'll be a good trolling spring for the coho? Seems like there are a lot around this year. Average size for this time of year seems to be up too.

It ain't a real coho till it pushes 8 lbs. Its just fry till then:)

About the biggest coho I have taken out of Superior is 4-5 lbs,,,, 12-16 lbs are common in Alaska tho

I caught a 21in while fishing with a buddie that grew up fishing lake superior. He said it was the biggest Coho he'd ever seen out of that lake!

18.5 inches is biggest I've seen. As far as I'm concerned they are of perfect eating size. 2 lbs of candy...........

I've caught them up to 27"...that's in the fall on the southshore when they are fully grown though. Size and numbers seems to vary a lot year to year. They are a hoot and a holler any size though.

Saw quite a few boats out today spread out. I pulled from Brighton up to Bluebird all day using cranks and boards. Nothing. Fished shallow and deep. Anyone getting any? For the boats I saw I didn't see any landed. Marked some big schools of what must have been smelt out deep. Wondering if fishing closer to Duluth may be better?

Washed the cobwebs off the boat Friday evening, the wife's rod picked up one small Silver. Went out solo yesterday and had only one strike in 4 hours and nothing landed. Both times I was fishing the Park Point area. Didn't see much net action yesterday. Hoping to get out for a few hours today if the Chief of Staff allows.

Was out yesterday along the PP area. Trolled orange spoons behind boards. Had one strike but lost it otherwise,zip. Still, this was the first April in a couple years I was able to launch the boat and face got a little sun

After going 6 for 8 yesterday on cohos ,,,Went back out today and went 2 for 3 till the wind kicked up and we headed back to the landing ,,,Smelt looking baits did catch most of the fish ,,,Not much for temp breaks out there but did see a lot of bait balls in 60+ feet of water
