Fishing/Ice Reports From Long Point/Birch Beach?

Recommended Posts

Heading up tomorrow for the rest of the week for some fishing and was wondering the latest on fishing and ice reports. Will be staying at Birch Beach and hopefully fishing from there via snowmobile and portables. Is that doable with the current ice conditions? If I can get out, any help with depth to look for.

Thanks for any information you can provide.

I'll try to send a report from the lake on Thursday. I also sent you a PM. Anyone else with some knowledge of current conditions?

The ice is rough but you wont have any trouble with an atv or snowmobile (I am not sure how much snow is left on the ice after the thaw) Fishing hasnt been great but you never know, check your usual hot spots and good luck

We fished out from Birch Beach from Thursday - Saturday. Thursday in 24 - 26 fow. Fishing was slow, only keeping 6 fish for 8 of us. Friday, moved to 30 feet and mostly all Saugers but some 15+" and active all day. Between my son and I probably caught 45-50 between us and kept 12. Other two houses with us had similar success. Saturday same spot, morning was similar to Friday then around 1:30 they shut down with only a couple more the rest of the day. Not as good of fishing as previous years but still was a good time, a meal of fish at the cabin and some to bring home.

Fished out of Long Point on Fri & Sat. Friday were in 26' and it was slow but had enough action to get a good meal plus released a lot of small fish. Saturday they moved us out to 29' towards the twin islands and got our limit but had to work the electronics, lots of shoppers. Had several occasions of fish following jig up to the hole but wouldn't strike which seemed odd in that deep of water. Kelly at Long Point did his best to get us on fish. Heard stories of nearby houses going all day with out a fish.

Gas I am sure the fish that were chasing like you described were whitefish/tullibee. They can be very frustrating if not equipped for them but they are a riot to catch.
