12 volt lights in Fish House

Trytti

Question

I am going to run 12 volt lights in my fish house and was just curious if you have to run it through an inverter to power a standard light bulb? I was just on Red Lake and the house we stayed in we just hooked up my battery to power the lights and it worked fine. I just tested wiring direct to a lampholder and it would not light the bulb. I hooked up the inverter and plugged in a standard house lamp and it worked fine. I didn't see an inverter in the fish house we used so I am not sure what I am missing here?

Thanks

The bulbs in the fish house were probably 12 volt incandescant bulbs so no inverter was needed.

OK that makes sense. They sure looked like plain old 60 watt bulbs to me but I didn't think to look closer.

Thanks!

I recomend a light strip from Northern Bright Lights. Very well made and I love their dimmer switch. Great for when you want to fish shallow or just dont need all the brightness.

Big M store...50 watt 12 volt incandescent bulbs...$2 each. FYI the Compact Fluorescent Light (CFL) bulbs use a bit less energy, are more expensive but are not as bright.
