Got some Nice eyes during early ice now the Perch bite is HOT lots of Jumbo size was out today and got around 30 all C&R wont eat any fish out of this lake because of how green it turns in the summer but they are sure fun to catch. Found anywhere between 8-12 inches of ice all depending on where you were @ on the lake safe for walking and wheelers.

Do you really think that those fish are bad for you because the lake turns green?

maybe they are good just my own personal preference and that lake gets hit hard with bucket fillers in the Spring and Winter so Ide rather C&R. I just have fun catching them and letting them go.

Please do not risk it. Think about the ones who will have come and find your body and get your car out of the lake. Yes it is cold but the ice took a beating during the warm up and caused some thin areas.

Sat for a few hours on a spot today. 25- 30 drink perch for every decent perch or crappie. I got one little walleye up about 11 inches. Not overly impressed with the fishing that I found today. Bad area maybe?

I've had some amazing walleye fishing on that lake....and then some years, I can't find anything to save my soul. That lake always seems to be loaded with those small perch. I tried to use bigger lures/minnows to keep them away, but it didn't always work. I should say that they are an awesome early-fish indicator; when the perch disappear, there's usually a toothy critter in the vicinity.

I noticed that today, except that it was always a catfish that would smile for the camera. They are fun to catch, but couldn't get them to chase like the do on shoe

Went out on Sunday and couldn't believe how dirty the water was. Picked up the typical perch in 12 feet. Saw one walleye on the camera which was impressive since the water was so murky.

Hey guys, I go to school up here in st. cloud and was wondering if I could get some advice on little rock as maybe a general area to fish or look for. You can pm me if its easier. Not looking for your hotspots just some general information. Thanks for your help in advance

Its a shallow lake you will find a lot of perch in this lake early ice is the best time to fish for big eyes, pike, and crappies. Use the Benton Beach access go str8 out couple hundred yards and you will find 10-12fow stay to the left as if you go to the Right side their is a River channel and wont be safe to be around unless you like cold water.

Thanks for the information. are there any bad spots or springs to watch out for? also I've been doing a little research and it says its suppose to get up to 15fow. is this true and if so are those areas to try or no?

Their are a few areas with 15fow can be good at times look for the groups of houses more than likely they will be in 15fow

Give the groups of houses some space and the bite is usually a bit more aggressive.

Good Luck.

This spring I saw a lot of grouse and even a few broods. I'm hopeful for the upland season. Didn't see a whole lot of mallard ducklings this year but good numbers of wood ducks. I think the Canada geese numbers go up every year.

My uncle and dad said they aren’t seeing any young birds and not many up north. Bummer Hazel is ready and Finn wants some ducks .

Just got back from my annual 3 day fishing trip to my brother's cabin.  My dad, brother, nephew and I spent Thursday, Friday and Saturday fishing 4 lakes.(Evergreen,  Grace, Plantaganet and Cass.)  Caught lots of sunfish, crappie,  perch and a couple walleye.  Perch on Cass were 10-12 inches. Crappie were mostly 10 to 11. Some 12's.  Sunfish ran 8-9 inches.  Walleye was tough but managed a 14, 15 and 17. My brother and nephew did better than my dad and I. They have much better quality rods and could feel the bites much better, plus they used gulp vs our live bait mostly. They did better using 3 inch gulp than smaller ones as well. I'm definitely investing in a new quality rod. Plus I need to get more confidence on plastic.  Overall a very good trip.

Fall lake has nobody there and yes you have to use portage wheels to get across. At prairie portage you don't cross the border, so you don't have to go through customs. However right next to prairie portage there is a Canadian customs building if you wanted to enter into Canada. I don't know anything about it other than it is there.

Grouse season is right around the corner, my Italian 20-gauge SxS sidelock is still available for trade. 25" barrels, ejectors, single selective trigger, great early season grouse thumper, and in excellent condition for a fifty-year-old gun.   Jim

I was thinking of the fall lake portage,  isn't there someone there too?    Or is it just portage wheels to get boat across? And if you go at prairie portage, isn't that a border crossing, so customs and all that?   I love Quetico BTW
