Just had to take the time to post this. I have had my Fl-12 with tri-beam transducer for a couple of years now, no problems. I take it out this year and it is going completely wacky. First 5 feet are scrambled with solid red, then I have to turn the gain all the way up to see my walleye jig, NOT GOOD! Thinking I may be out of luck, I give Pat at Vexilar a call. I tell him basically the same thing I just wrote above, and before I can describe the issue, he tells me to remove the float, pull the two black pins holding the tribeam selector, and send it in. They will replace it for free as this is a known defect on the tribeam that some sort of epoxy was not manufactured correctly. I haven't received my ducer back (only been 2 days since sending it in) yet but fully expect to in the next few days. Just wanted to comment that this was incredible service, and the guys at Vexilar really are standing behind their product. For those who may be wondering what to do with a vexilar that may not be working, I would suggest giving Pat a call, for me it was an awesome experience.

It has been a tradition of companies in the midwest to provide excellent service. Strikemaster, Vexilar, etc all have great customer service, too bad the rest of the world doesnt operate the same way.

Not to mention they are more then likely sending you a Pro-View ducer which will blow that tri-beam out of the water.

So I did receive my new ducer back, this new one has a red bottom and does not look like my old tribeam, is this the proview you are talking about? Getting it out on the ice today, hopefully it helps find some of those slabs!

  • 2 weeks later...

my buddy had the EXACT same issue. He called Vexilar and they sent him a new one pronto. I wanna say they told him they were having issues with the Tri-Beams and were replacing those transducers up until the new year. So heads up for anyone having that issue as well.

On a side note. I have a Humminbird 798ci HD SI on my boat. Has anyone had any experience using theirs for ice fishing? I saw the kit at Scheels (PTCU) and have seen the transducers for sale. I was also wondering if you have to go with the 9 20, or if the 9 19 would work too.

I asked the guy at Scheels and he said the 9 20 but didn't sound to sure, which is a 20 or 60 degree cone...not sure if it would make a difference to use the 9 19 which is a 9 or 19 degree.

Any thoughts on that would be appreciated.

+1 I've done business with the guys at vexilar/minnkota in Bloomington before. Great team of techs there. My dad brought his older fl-8 there today. Complete overhaul for just over $100 and they said they'd have it done in 2 days! They're a no b.s. company and I appreciate that.
