Night Fishing Tactics

Hey All,

Heading up there next weekend and generally we just fish out of portables and stay in the buddy's cabin overnight. Although we have the day fishing down we have never spent the night out there. This year we are going to bring the sleeper up to fish in comfort during the day and might spend a night or two in it.

I know pout are what is mainly caught (which is just fine with me, I love pout) but just had a couple general questions for pout/walleyes at night:

1. what depth range seems to be most productive at night? Shallower or deeper?

2. Is jigging still productive or should we just put the rattle reels down close to the bottom and have some cocktails and play cards?

Thanks for the advice, D&B

We usually don't try too hard at night, but we always keep a flasher and a rod or two down, caught maybe half a dozen slots last year, if you see a mark a few feet off the bottom, bring up the jig and they will usually pound it. But its maybe 1/night at most, and this is in our usual deep water day spot. Good luck
