Cullen Lakes

Recommended Posts

New to the forums and don't see any chatter about the Cullen Lakes Chain. I've been hitting Middle Cullen pretty hard the last year and a half with some memorable fish but haven't ventured into the neighbors. Any one care to share some insight on Upper Cullen? Going to give it a try this weekend - probably looking for crappies and the biggest pike in the lake.

Maybe I have to do my part before others offer advice... I got up to Middle Cullen today and within a few hours pulled this beaut from the ice. 15-20 ft water, 10 yards from cattails, on top of weed bed. 10 inch sucker minnow under tip up on a quick strike rig. Fish measured 38.5 inches and didn't get to weigh her - my guess is ~ 16-18 lbs. Quick, healthy release to fight another day.

Lower Cullen can be ok at times for Crappies. Some patient folks target walleyes. They are never found in numbers. But when you hook one, it is usually a pig.

There generally tends to be a decent crappie bite on the Cullens. I know this season there have been a lot fewer houses out there then in the past....not sure if that means anything. Sorry, I'm just going off what I've been told haven't gotten out there myself yet.
