Adrians ice conditions Dec 3rd

Recommended Posts

Today in the bay there was 12 to 14 inches of ice. In the lake there was 13 to 15 inches. Those last open spots from when the ice shifted had 10 inches at the least. we are opening the road to anything less than full size vehicles not pulling wheel houses. (a half ton truck is a full size vehicle) no full size vehicles. We are allowing wheel houses to be pulled out by atv or utv up to 20 feet long but keep in mind that it is a little bumpy out in the lake.

Thanks for the updated report Brian. Always appreciative of the work that you guys put in so we can all get out onto the lake and back into shore safely.

How far out (miles or depth) does your road go right now?

JW the road only goes out to about 28 FOW so far. Was out there saturday. Beyond that there is a ton of really nasty ice conditions basically on a line from about 1/2 way down pine island to the Canadian border. I would call it basically impassable ice. Reports i heard first hand was the ice up around Knight and Bridges and east of there is the worst we have had in recent years..very rugged. North of Garden is better. The snow we got last night is going to help the conditions some but it's still slow going out there even where it's not really bad it's still rough. This is just going to be one of those years where a little more care and a lot more patience is required. For every one...the guys from the resorts are doing the best they can with what they have to work with..just going to take some time to get trails and roads established and in decent condition for everyone.

I was also out there on Saturday in the snobear. Were you by chance in a snobear with another snobear near by? I was in about 27 ft at the time, about a half mile from the border and the other 2 snobears were a little bit deeper than I was and we were all kind of in a line.

I have never seen the ice as rough as it is now. Unless you are on one of the roads, you have to go very SLOW and proceed with extreme caution. The snow we got yesterday should help but it is also going to hide some of the jagged pieces of ice that are heaved up all over the place. The bite on Saturday was very slow in the spots we tried (22-27 ft). Sunday morning we tried shallower in 15ft and the fish seemed to be a little more active, but still very slow for LOTW early ice standards.

What is the final snowfall total from last night?

Planning on coming up to Adrians on Friday just wondering if it looks possible to get over to Ontario side by snowmobile. Thinking of going on north side of sable islands and heading toward morson or is it a lost cause?
