Ferguson and Fire Arms

Recommended Posts

If you have read the direct testimony of the officer involved in the shooting in Ferguson MO you will note that he TWICE mentions that his weapon "misfired" or "failed to fire."

It seems surprising that a (presumably) trained and practiced officer would be carrying a weapon that is so undependable!! I'd sure like to know what the man was carrying and the last time he did any cleaning or maintenance on it.

Personally, I think the weapon worked fine: I think the officer, as so often happens, lost all sense of time and his own actions. The few officers I have talked with who have been involved in on duty shootings say it is nothing like you expect; time seems to stand still and you are often unaware of some of your actions. THAT is why you depend on training to take over-you don't HAVE to think much.

What was the weapon?

Well, if the weapon was a semi auto, which 99% of officer's carry now, there's a couple different reasons it might not have fired.

If the officer and suspect were fighting over control of the gun, the safety, if there was one, could have been switched from fire to safe or half way in between. In a struggle for the gun, if the slide gets pushed back just enough, the firing pin won't make contact w/ the primer on the bullet, so the gun won't fire. Possibly the officer's or suspect's finger was caught in behind the trigger and the trigger guard, preventing the tigger from being squeezed enough to make the gun fire.

So, as you can see, the weapon not firing doesn't necessarily mean the weapon was undependable or the officer wasn't properly trained. Sometimes in the heat of battle stuff happens and just because a gun is supposed to go BOOM when you pull the trigger, doesn't mean it always will.

Personally, I carry a Glock 21 Gen 4 in 45 auto.

If the officers recollections are accurate that makes things all the more confusing, as that weapon is a highly regarded and dependable pistol. He refers to "click click" implying the pistol has double strike capability. I am not that familiar with it to know that for a fact.

All more or less moot now but curious.

Maybe research FTF on that pistol.

Fish Newton lake is great for walleyes. Everyone goes to basswood and forgets about newton. The late fall pike bite in pipestone is amazing and it’s a great time to catch the big walleyes are up there feeding too.

It would cost you 830 bucks to watch every game this NFL season under multiple platforms.   I don't have peacock or espn+ or whatever they want me to have, so I'll just have to relent on being able to watch a few games.  I refuse to cave in to their demands just to watch the Packers play the Eagles in Brazil.  I think last year peacock had the exclusive rights to the Miami/KC playoff game too.  I'm sure that will occur again in January.

Well it's a win, but it wasn't to Purdy with all the turn overs and penalties!

Another prediction.   Under the cloud of "Woke Inclusion" Just like the Mn state flag and the Mn Twins, the Vikings name will be going away in a few years! Their already making them look like Snow flakes!  We can't have the uniforms of angry Norwegian people!  Sounds funny but. Wait for it! 😒

New frontiers.  Expand the market; make more money.  Despite some PR moments, they’re not in it for charity.   BUT, they might want to take a moment and see how that worked out for NASCAR.  Not that having to buy premium channels to watch races was the only problem but it sure helped kill the fever for a lot of people.

Get ready. Any bets in a few years the average Joe NFL fans aren't going to be able to watch their local teams, unless it's pay for view!  Sounds like their greasing the wheels now.  There are 5 international games this year! ☹️ "The NFL will play a regular season game in Madrid, Spain in 2025, as the NFL prioritizes global growth and expands the International Games to new cities and markets around the world."

I have gone into Basswood from Fall Lake. From Fall the first portage takes you into Newton and that is the easier of the two. The portage from Newton into Pipestone is the one with a hill. It is definitely harder! You also have to be careful when you go down the hill because the boat will pick up speed and can get away from you. Yes, you can get to Jackfish without going into Canada and there are signs letting you know where Canada is.
