Bald Eagle

Recommended Posts

Around 4 today (Sunday) and went down and saw two guys and a portable near the end of the rock bar. There was a lot of water on top of the ice. I didn't go out and check the thickness. If it refreezes before it snows again it could be a decent sheet. The ice boaters will have some fun if it stays clear of snow.

Where is a decent place to fish off the boat landing if having to walk, was thinking of possibly getting out this coming Friday. Never fished close to the landing as every time I have been out its been on a fourwheeler up on the north end.

I have walked to island several times and just south of the reed patch. If there is little to no snow then it is a pretty easy walk.

The water around the reed island just south and west of the launch ranges from 5 feet to 16 feet, with the 16 on the very south corner. I have never fished it in the winter but the entire area gets a lot of attention in the summer. I suspect it is mostly panfish.

Woodnicholas, We must have been on the lake at different times on 11/28. I was on it from only about 12:30-2:30 and so no ATV's. One guy driving a grasshopper lawn mower on the ice and 1 ATV sitting on a trailer in the parking lot. I found about 3-7 inches in all the holes I drilled, drilled about 75 holes in depths ranging from 4 feet to 16 feet and didn't catch any, only marked a few fish. First time ever fishing Bald Eagle for me, so I could have been in the wrong area or using the wrong equipment.

Went out on Sat. There were more than 15 portables on the lake, someone drove snowmobile, ATV even lawn mover on the ice too.

Caught about 10-15 perches, most small, 6-9 in range.

It was a nice day with friend on ice

Yes I was out there between that time, I saw that guy on the mower and thought that was a heck of a idea for early ice. I started out at about 20ff and wasnt marking anything so moved to 15ft of water and started to mark some. Got two small walleyes and couple small perch. Can't say you were in the wrong area the was a lot if fishing pressure that day off the launch

Unless you know a guy on the lake, you go through the launch. You could see if the boat rental place would give you access up that way, but the walk if probably about the same.

Went out to Bald Eagle today, there was between 8 to 9 inches of pure steady ice. In no way its going to break anytime soon but that doesn't mean we shouldn't be careful out there. I did saw those two guys someone mention about the mower or tractor out there. Steady and slow wins the race right? I'm thinking about taking my kids atv out there too. I will look funny but it'll get me from point A to point B without risking too much weight on 1 spot. Good Luck out there.

Took the grandkid out today. We didn't have much luck. A handful of small crappies and sunnies, the fish were really on the move where we were today. I would say a good 10" of ice, and looks like we will be gaining quickly.

The rock bar is located on the North Side of Bald Eagle about 2/3 up the lake. There is a point that comes out and if you look on Navionics you can see the structure where it is. It goes from 5ft to 25 ft quickly.

Is Navionics a phone app? or something you need to purchase?

bump!!

Anybody out there that can give ice conditions. Planning on Saturday, find some crappies and walleyes, anyone driving yet, or should I plan on walking out to fish?

On Bald Eagle I saw at least one car just south of the island yesterday (Thursday) and today. I don't know if there are others out as I didn't get to a point where I could see. I don't think there is a lot of snow out there but there also likely isn't any 'roads' in place either. Doubt I would go out without 4 wheel drive. I did drive by Otter Lake and there was only one person out and he was on foot. Didn't see any evidence that anyone has drive out as of 3 p.m. on Friday.
