Humminbird 800 series question

I was looking at the Bird 800 combo units on line and they say the units have an internal gps. Does this mean no external gps puck style antennae?

I think they have the capability to add an external antenna, if that's what you want. Don't take my word for it though.

They come with internal module, but you can most certainly add an external puck, like the heading sensor module if you want or need to.

You can add an external head, but I haven't had any problems acquiring a signal with the internal on my 798.

My 898 came with the external puck receiver. Humminbird's specs are less than clear, I recommend you contact them directly through their online page and ask the question there. That way the answer you get will be correct.

I have the 899 with the internal GPS and have never had an issue with the GPS locking on... By the time I launch the boat, park the truck, and walk back to the dock the GPS is locked on and ready to go!

The new models 859 and 899 have the internal GPS. The older model 858 and 898 have the external gps. You can find great deals on the 858 and 898 now that the new series came out.

Scroll down to the "Specs" section. It says "External GPS receiver optional".

You want to look at the number an the letters. 98 and 58 series are external. Also a tell tale is "CI" or "I" for internal and color internal GPS. The 99 series are CI.

Don't confuse this with HD or DI.
