Current Ice Conditions

Recommended Posts

Looks like we're going to get an early start to the ice fishing season. Starting to see some ice form on a couple of the small bays and lakes over the last few days. Please post your current ice conditions here. Stay safe and good luck!

Looks like North Long 371 had a skim of ice. Some of the small lakes on the gull chain will freeze over tonight. Definitely making ice.

The 10 day forecast looks very good for making ice. Hopefully no big snow falls before we have really good ice!

checked a small pond north of Pine River today and it's still to thin. North Long (371 bay) is covered but still not thick enough to hold a person...yet.

Anyone go out today? Talked with a reliable source who said there was 3 1/2 inches on North Long and 1 1/2 on the new stuff on Round. That was this morning. My plan is to be fishing by Tuesday.

Does anyone have any ice reports on lake Shamineau?

I left Shamineau Sunday morning. The lake was about 80% iced over from what I could see. An area from Auger's to the west shore was still open.

Looking to do some kiting with skates tomorrow afternoon.

Heard 371 bay is looking great and there has been some people out? Should the whole bay be in good shape?

4 wheeler was on west side of Round today. Careful as there is still open water along the west part of lake. Hoel in the day was 80% froze today too. Open water where the Extravaganza is held.

There's 7 inches of ice on White Sand in Baxter. I had my four wheeler and my twin portable out there tonight.

You could tell it was a nice day out since there must've been 60-75 portables on N. Long and Round... Everyone be careful!

On Saturday on small lake I measured 4.5" to 6.5" (using a tape) on my end. On the other end which freezes later there was some area that opened back up. Hopefully all will be good and frozen next weekend on those lakes still with open water...

Gull Lake still has some open water still. The wind is keeping some spots open. Most lakes are in great shape. Just be careful out there.

Whitefish chain is mixed on ice. Cross was open yet, and some parts on the main lake of Whitefish. middle whitefish had a skim over it Friday morning and it seemed to hold out through the wind. the bays have ice, and the smaller lakes on the chain. the ice we seen on the smaller lakes and bays range from 2" to 7", really watch the break and re-freeze lines, as that was where the wind was pushing into it or broke ice off during the wind. seen 6" on one side and 3" on the other side of that line. Still some small pockets of open water out there in spots on the deeper bays.

Be very careful out there and check every couple feet.

Maybe I missed it, but this seems the closest forum for Staples. I went out on Dower lake today for a couple hours. I went old school today. I only had one rod, one tip up, a bucket of suckers and a hatchet. I didn't measure the ice but it looks around 7"-8". I had a tip up in about 14' off of a slight point, and was jigging in an inside turn. I got a 19" pike right away when I put my dardevle down to check depth. A while later I switched to a big jigging rap and and had a bigger pike about 32" on before it straightened the hook. Right before I left the flag went up and it ended up being a nice 26" pike that I kept for dinner. The other guys out there looked like they were after panfish, and judging by how much they were moving, they were not doing well. The pike I kept had a 6" bluegill in its stomach, and my bait was an 8" sucker. The wind was really blowing so either dress warm, or bring a suitcase/flip over house. A hub would be a major pain right now.

Not sure how they did the wood back then, but now they have plastic I'm sure you could bend into a circle if yea needed. 👌

What I really wanna know is:   How’d get that lattice to curve like that?  Bomb diggity!

Fish Newton lake is great for walleyes. Everyone goes to basswood and forgets about newton. The late fall pike bite in pipestone is amazing and it’s a great time to catch the big walleyes are up there feeding too.

It would cost you 830 bucks to watch every game this NFL season under multiple platforms.   I don't have peacock or espn+ or whatever they want me to have, so I'll just have to relent on being able to watch a few games.  I refuse to cave in to their demands just to watch the Packers play the Eagles in Brazil.  I think last year peacock had the exclusive rights to the Miami/KC playoff game too.  I'm sure that will occur again in January.

Well it's a win, but it wasn't to Purdy with all the turn overs and penalties!

Oop, must be another Vikings game.  So far it's been a Prudy game, Viks!  😁

Another prediction.   Under the cloud of "Woke Inclusion" Just like the Mn state flag and the Mn Twins, the Vikings name will be going away in a few years! Their already making them look like Snow flakes!  We can't have the uniforms of angry Norwegian people!  Sounds funny but. Wait for it! 😒

Just sayen, not all the loyal old fans, can pay for the NFL viewing package!

New frontiers.  Expand the market; make more money.  Despite some PR moments, they’re not in it for charity.   BUT, they might want to take a moment and see how that worked out for NASCAR.  Not that having to buy premium channels to watch races was the only problem but it sure helped kill the fever for a lot of people.

Get ready. Any bets in a few years the average Joe NFL fans aren't going to be able to watch their local teams, unless it's pay for view!  Sounds like their greasing the wheels now.  There are 5 international games this year! ☹️ "The NFL will play a regular season game in Madrid, Spain in 2025, as the NFL prioritizes global growth and expands the International Games to new cities and markets around the world."
