NEED YOUR HELP!!!

Just read a disturbing story that happened near Mapleton, MN. Please read the story below and if you know something, DO THE RIGHT THING AND TURN THEM IN!

If anyone recognizes the truck in the first photo please let me or the MN DNR know, the DNR tip-line is (800) 652-9093. Some hunters came into my yard right past no trespassing signs and shot a deer...7 miles east of Mapleton MN. I can't say for sure if the deer entered my yard injured or not but it appears the first 3 shots were fired from the edge of the road, there was no blood on the road or ditch...it started in my yard. The last shot that they finished the deer off with was 15' away from the front of my house and the office my wife was working in...aiming directly in the direction of my neighbors house who happens to have a young child. They never came to the door to seek permission or to explain/apologize for their actions, they loaded the deer in our driveway quickly and left. These guys knew what they were doing was wrong and left a mess of blood and a shell casing in my yard. My wife is very upset about his as am I and these guys need to be dealt with by the authorities or they'll do it again and cold possibly kill someone.

Thanks everyone.

sounds like it could easily be just handed to Sheriff and he can CSI the photo. Maybe they tried that and didn't get it solved and are turning to the public. I'd hate to be the guy in the Dodge though.

Probably a low pixel phone camera, could be tough getting the plate #. However, I would think that the sheriff could figure out how many late model solver dodge trucks are in the area, and how many of those owners have a deer license, and go from there. That picture should give them enough info to narrow it down to a handful of people.

Hopefully some photo enhancing software can decifer that plate. Would like to hear the outcome down the road, good luck.

On a side note to this, don't want to side track your post. I sent off a photo to my local CO she knew who it was instantly, did a great job. But, I think it would be cool for HSO to have a thread on trespassing photos, might deter it if they knew they could pop up on a web site and later be identified.

Low pixal phone, already cropped the wrong way, and downsized for the net.

So, has the person been identified then? I would think that they broke at least 2 laws when they did this. It is disappointing to see that some would do this for a deer. I can't imagine shooting into a field, much less shooting into someone's homestead. It's a bummer, we don't need people like this in the field.

all that for a deer? I want a deer as much as the next guy (well at least I thought) but I sure wouldn't go to those extremes!!! some people

I would think with the original photo, not the uploaded version, this could be somewhat easily be cleaned up.

I tried for about 3 minutes and I was able to clearly make out an "E" or "F" in there second to last letter. I have some software we use here at work and it does a fairly decent job.

I have a feeling with some real good software this would be easy as heck. I am sure that is the new style plates with the flat letters. Those are highly reflective so that squads can pick them up at night easier.

Here's another one of the photos the homeowner posted.

I'm not certain as to what Law Enforcement agencies were called. I do believe they were cell phone pics.

Another person had enhanced the pics and came up with 4 possible license plate numbers. It sounds pretty certain it's a MN plate.

I would bet any money they may have wounded it some where near by and seen it come over to their land. I would be checking with the neighboring farms that had land next to them to see if maybe it wasn't part of their hunting crew chasing it down? Guy's do crazy things for a deer they nicked! confused

From what I have read so far, the deer was wounded. The hunter is known by the property owner.

Irregardless, a simple knock on the door would have alleviated all of these problems. Now someone is more than likely going to be cited for a few offenses.

I didn't know this until today but the property owner was someone I worked with back in the 90's.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
