Icepick: Just got back from LOW on Tuesday. You can pick up the report a page or so back. We were over Pine Island.
The limit of 14 is also the possession limit. Of those 14 no more than 6 can be walleye. Of the walleye you are only allowed one over 19". We were into the Saugers more than the eyes so your 14 could all be Saugs. Other than the 19" regulation on the eyes there is no other size or slot on the walleyes or Saugs as is the case for example on Mille Lacs.
We generally pick up minnows ( shiners ) at Luckys when we get to Baudette. Riverbend resort furnishs our fatheads N/C.
It's also my understanding from others who have posted that it is illegal to clean and eat any fish that do have a slot on them. I would check the regs or ask at Gibbons just to be sure. You would be alright with perch however and they are pretty tasty right out of the lake and into the pan. Good luck, hope you have a great time and pound some fish. Bill

Thanks for tips earlier!!!!! A couple more ?'s...Where would you recommend to stop and get bait and tackle prior to going out? We are staying w/ Gibbins. Anywhere close?? Also, do most guys cook some fish while in the sleepers. I understand the limit of 14 fish, is there a possession limit also? I certainly enjoy eatin' a few, but don't want to violate any regulations...Also, what are the size limits on LOW for walleye?? sauger??
Sounds like the fishin' has been good. Hope it can stay that way for 3 more weeks!!!!!
Thank You!!!!! Awesome forum here guys!!!!!
We just stayed a few nights with Gibbins, and got back Wednesday. They provide you with plenty of bait and tackle. We caught smaller fish at first, and they got larger the more we fished. Nothing huge, except an eel pout that went off the scale, but good eaters. All in all, I'd say the fishing was good.
You can eat fish in the sleeper. there was a thread a couple of weeks back about that, where two of us both contacted the DNR. We got different answers, but it looks like the only places you can't eat fish on the ice are those with defined slot limits, like Mille Lacs. Your daily limit is the same as your possession limit, and anything you eat is included in your limit.
I hope this helps.

Crabby, thanks for the clarification on the eating of fish while on the lake. I do remember that your prior posts had addressed this very topic. Bill

Made a quick trip before the weekend rush on Vermilion. Ice was in very good condition. Didn't see any slush or water on any of the roads out from McKinley Park. There are plowed roads on both side of the staked snowmobile trail coming out from the landing. The road to the left goes out toward Birch Island, and there is a spur road going to the left (west) a couple hundred yards out. The road on the right side goes out toward Ely Island. There is a short spur road going east about half mile out. The water came up under my fish house about another 1½ inches when I drilled my holes. Looks like I will be going back up early next week to block my house up higher. The small amount of new snow is really drifting up and adding weight. You may get water on the ice, or find slush if you drill holes in new areas. There is about 15% bare ice where the wind has blown it off. Many of the drifts are very high and hard, so you could get stuck on them. Fishing was average. Best bites were from 9-10am and 11-1230 when I quit. Biggest walleyes was only 16¼", then the next biggest was 13.75". Reporting lengths in quarter inches because I can't seem to find any big walleyes. Good luck fishing, be careful driving around, and be courteous to others.

That's cute. My mother in law had all those little sayings. Her favorite was "Life's a betch then you die" so cheery. 😏
