Before the season I think the stock on zucker was pretty low but with how he has started it has to get some interest. Not sure who I would target but come playoff time I think I'm in your camp with needing more grit and I just don't see many options.

IMO he's trade bait. I hope I don't regret saying this but he's a liability on defense. Yeah he can snipe some goals and has speed but in playoffs when it counts I honestly don't want him out there.

He looked pretty good in the playoffs against the Hawks in 2012, I don't think we should be too quick to ship him off before he can show us what he can do. Defense can be taught, scoring and speed can't. He also doesn't look as lost out there as previous years.

It would have to be a very good offer to let Zucker go at this point.

Expect Rangers to be very physical tonight and we should get PP opportunities, time to get that 0-20 PP units going!

He was arguably our best player in those playoffs. Yeah we could use some toughness, but I also think speed comes into play a lot more in the playoffs. We saw it with Haula last year. Also his D has gotten a lot better, and will continue to as he knows it must for him to stay up here. He's been pretty good on the pk aswell.

That I agree with. There is improvement, which he was really really lost at times in prior years, thats good to see.

I think you have to keep him on the team at this rate.

Its a long way till the trade deadline and there are always a few good physical players on the block then. If we need to toughen up at that point then do it. But no need to out think ourselves already. Give it time.

Oh by no means am I advocating trading him now. I think his stock is rising, but I think come the deadline there could be some serious interest. Who knows. I could be wrong on him. He has definitely progressed since last year. I would like to see consistency across a dozen or so games.

Regardless, this team is a blast to watch.

Is say keep him on the 4th for now. Not broken, don't fix it. If we need to send a message or someone gets hurt, then move him up. For now, 4 goals from a 4th liner is ok with me smile

If we do trade him some time this season, I'd wonder if it wouldn't be for picks. Decent 4th liners are a dime a dozen and we are going to be at the cap the next few years with all of our RFA signings.

The cap is something I have been worrying about as well. I do believe it is supposed to increase again next year, but nothing is official. As of now they are $12.4M under the cap with Haula, Granlund, Scandella, Folin as RFA next season. I hope they nab each one of them. After that they will need to fill some other space or resign a UFA they have.

Brodin takes a pretty vicious hit at the end of the first. I'll be surprised to see him back tonight.

Open season on the small skill guys. First Brodin and now Haula. Hopefully they aren't out for a while. I'm betting concussion for Haul.

Moore will get a couple of games for that hit on Haula. That is exactly what they are trying to get rid of.

This game has been reminscent of Vigneaults time in Vancouver. Pure garbage. mad

Probably a good thing we can't score on the power play. The way we're scoring even strength there goones would take out more of our players.

Pathetic! 2 major penalties in one period. A 3 goal lead going into 3rd and lose this game. They should have gotten 2 goals on those 2 major penalties. That ineptitude cost them this game.

Kuemper allowed 5 goals not only in 1 period but on 20 shots in the whole game. Not completely his fault but he looked rattled. Suter struggled too. Our D was a disaster and I haven't seen a debacle like that in a long time.

Gotta love Parise coming back out after getting stitched up, that's hockey toughness!

I look at it more like kuemper gave up 5 goals on 9 shots since they all came in the 3rd. I believe it was the 5th goal was totally a defensive breakdown no one went after the puck Suter to blame IMO.

Worst loss in team history? Embarrassing yes but I think the loss to the oilers (I think it was oilers) two years ago when they had to clinch a playoff spot was worse.

I realized something last night. When the Vikings blow a game I get a chuckle out of it and it doesn't bother me one bit. Last night I got so bugged by the debacle going on I turned the game off so I would be able to get to sleep at a decent time. I'm moderately embarrassed by this but have now realized why after Vikes games the call in shows go on forever with really irate and upset fans.

Leech I'm with you on that one! My wife started watching and then all things went south. I told her to get the heck out of the room and as she stood up goal 5 goes in. I blame her. Lol

Well, maybe this is a good thing. Next time we have a lead late in a game, Yeo can bring this up and say, "this is what happens if you stop playing." Hopefully it's motivation for the team moving forward to never take the foot off the gas.

That third was tough to watch. You could see it coming. We stopped skating, we lost battles, we coasted around our zone. Even Kuemper got a little lazy on one or two of those goals.

What was there 14 minutes of PP and we could not score....deserve to lose. Their PP does not even seem to get energized or much pressure....just hoping someone makes a shot. I thought we brought Andrew Brunette onto the bench to fix the PP?

Put the Zucker-Cooke-Carter line out on PP, they seems to be picking up a bulk of the scoring lately anyways. crazy

Zucker got some PP time when Parise was out.

Please no Carter. The guy takes stupid penalties, can't check and can't skate. I'd rather have Brodziak out there. We'll be seeing more of Brodziak in that 3rd line center role with Haula out too.

Walked today and yesterday, flushed 9, shot at two and got two. Hopefully next year I'll have a dog to hunt with. Still warm up here, skim of ice on ponds. Weather has been nice. Hopefully walk a bit more the next few weeks. Been pretty cautious walking for birds to not interfere with deer hunters. There sure are not the deer hunters there used to be

On the South Shore...  The focus for many this week is the ongoing deer hunting season which is a big tradition in these parts, even for avid walleye anglers.  There were some that either already harvested their deer or are more into catching fall walleyes than hunting.     Those that are fishing are taking advantage of the unseasonably warm weather and excellent walleye and sauger bite that is happening across the lake.  Cold weather is in the forecast in the upcoming days and weeks so that is also getting many excited. The best depths on the south end of LOW are 22-28 feet of water.     Vertical jigging with frozen emerald shiners is catching most of the walleyes, saugers and jumbo perch.  Depending upon where on the lake you are fishing, some slots and big trophies are in the mix as well, but most reports are talking about good numbers of eaters.    Jumbo perch are coming in good numbers this fall which will serve ice anglers well.  Watch out for an occasional pike or even lake sturgeon mixed in with the walleyes.      There are good numbers of walleyes and saugers across the south shore which is setting up nicely for early ice.   On the Rainy River...  There continues to be good numbers of shiners in the river, and consequently, there are good walleyes in the river as well.     Walleyes along with saugers, pike and some sturgeon are coming in up and down the river.  Most walleyes are being caught in 10-25 feet of water in various stretches of the river.   Jigging with live or frozen emerald shiners is the key. Some anglers are also still slow trolling crankbaits upstream to cover more ground and find fish. Both methods are producing solid results. Sturgeon fishing remains strong.  The catch-and-release sturgeon fishing is open into the spring when it changes to the "keep season" on April 24th. Up at the NW Angle...  As temps are getting colder, most are in the woods hunting and not fall fishing, however, for those who bundle up, fishing continues to be excellent.     A nice mixed bag with walleyes, saugers, perch, pike and crappies being caught. Very good muskie fishing with the colder water temps and shorter days.  Some big fish and some good numbers are being caught amongst the islands.  Both casting and trolling is getting it done.

I hunt in the rifle zone so I don't have a need to use a shotgun to hunt deer, but I would be looking at this if there was ever a need to.   There could be state legislation introduced next summer that eliminates the shotgun zone completely.  It has bipartisan support.  Wisconsin removed theirs years ago and MN is usually later to follow.  They've tried to pass it more than once and it came up just short both times.  Probably just a matter of time.

      Screw that, here's whatch need!  😆   Power-Shok Rifled Slug 10 Gauge 766 Grain Grain Weight: 766 Shotshell Length: 3-1/2in / 89mm Muzzle Velocity: 1280

20 ga has become a real popular deer round in the last 5 or so years.  The rifled barrels are zinging those sabot slugs with rifle like accuracy out to 100 yards easily.  Some go so far as dialing in for a 200 yard shot but really, by 150 they’re falling off pretty low.   I have a single shot Ultraslug in 20 ga that shoots really well at 100 yards.  Most everyone I know that has bought a slug gun lately has gotten the Savage 220 in 20ga.  Problem can be finding the shells you want.
    • leech~~
My son always bugs me about getting a nice light over-under 20ga for grouse hunting.  I say Heck no, I'm getting a 3 1/2" 10ga so I can put as much lead in the air that I can!!     So, I'm keeping my 12ga.
    • 11-87
That’s almost exactly what I was thinking.  Have slug barrels for both   One for turkey and one for deer.      I have a 20ga mosseberg as well. (Combo came with the scope but never used.   I always liked the 12 better
    • leech~~
Wanderer is right on the money and covered it well.  I was wondering too if you had a slug barrel for one of your guns?  If so you could make that your slug gun with a scope, and the other your turkey gun with the Red dot.  As you can afford it.
    • Wanderer
Kinda depends on if you want magnification or quick target acquisition.   More magnification options and better accuracy with a scope.  You get what you pay for too so get comfortable with a budget for one.  Tasco and Bushnell work but I find they lose their zero easier, have low contrast and don’t gather light well in low light conditions.  That said, I’m still using one I haven’t replaced yet.  Vortex has been the hot brand for the past several years for bang for the buck.  Good products.  Nothing beats Swarovski though.  Huge dough for those.  Burris is another decent option.   There are some specific models for shotgun/slug hunting in the economy brands and bullet drop compensation (BDC) reticles.  Based on experience I’d recommend not falling for that marketing ploy.   Red dots are usually lower magnification and easier to get on target.  Reasonably accurate but don’t do well with definition, like searching the brush for your target.  I put a HAWKE red dot on a .22 for squirrels and it’s been good.  For turkey, that’s probably the route I’d go.     If your slug shots are normally not too far and too brushy, I’d think a red dot could work there too if you’re only buying 1 scope.  You’ll be better off dimming the reticle to the lowest setting you can easily use to not over shine the target and get a finer aim point.   If you don’t have a slug barrel, you might appreciate one of those.  I had a browning with a smoothbore slug barrel that shot Brenneke 2-3/4 inch well.  The 11-87 would well fitted with a cantelever rifled barrel.
