Exactly. ..that's what happened to pmb.when they signed him he was suppose to be this crafty winger that could out skate and think the hits. But we all know what happened to him.

That was unbelievably horrible. That final minute was tough to watch. Nobody wants to shoot the puck. They just sit and play catch while time expires. They completely dominated that third period and still couldnt come up with one goal. Do other teams run the majority of the PP from the blue line, or do they try to take it low and make something happen??

Both, the PP has been horrible this year but it will get better, only way to go is up. Ideally a PP moves the puck around and takes what the other team gives them, there are set plays but players have to think on their feet and be ready expose any weaknesses. We just need to start shooting more, trying to be too cute with the puck. Thanks for an honest question.

Yeah I agree its often too much passing to get the perfect shot.

Vanek gave up a shooting chance himself twice but one led to Parises goal the other just a nice shot. After seeing the replay these were the right decision in both those cases because his chance to score was slight.

I agree he needs to shoot more but at least genus setting up others.

I read an article on the Wild's PP vs the Penguins PP. Basically, it came up with two reasons that we are so bad.

1. Luck. Our shooting percentage is incredibly low. Eventually, this will turn around, but not so much to make our PP great. We are at ~5% while 5v5 we are more like 10%

2. We don't shoot the puck. We thread passes instead of scoring rebounds. Maybe they just see it as lost zone time if you take a shot and don't get the rebound and it gets cleared.

Regardless, we need to be better at taking shots that will create rebounds and then crash the net. We've got one of the best in the game at that in Parise. We have a shooter in Nino. We have a decent shooting D in Scandella and Spurgeon. We have a possession guy in Koivu. We should be able to score PP goals.

That is what makes it so hard, that extra move or pass might be the only way to score on that play but not getting any kind of shot off can kill you too. Of course this is all done at NHL speed too which is pretty much impossible for all of us to comprehend.

Zucker had a great game last night. Niederreiter and him have really stepped it up this year!

+1 both are showing signs of being top notch goal scorers...Zucker's 2nd was awesome. Both these younger players go hard every shift and deserve these rewards.

First two goals were awesome. Can you imagine being the owner of Florida?? I dont think 35% of the stands were full. Watched the riots the rest of the time. Nino very good.

Next year, can we schedule a game against Florida once a week (at the X, of course)?

As far as the stands go, they must have a lot of corporate sponsors or possibly even a subsidy from the city of Miami. No other way to make it a go with attendance that is topped by some big high school hockey games in Mn. Hockey in Miami is...well...really stupid.

Good to see Zook bounce back its been a rough road of late for him.

Havent checked but hooefully that gets him back in the plus column in that department..

Backs looked good too.. grin

The FLA situation is terrible. They had ~8k people there. The Wild's AHL affiliate had ~9k at a game last night. Yeah, more people went to a minor league hockey game than a Florida NHL game.

My understanding was that they gave away a ton of tickets in the past to try and generate interest, but all they ended up accomplishing was devaluing the product. Now they are ending the ticket give-aways and charging. So, people are now being charged for something they got for free in the past so three isn't a whole lot of incentive to go.

They should move to a better market. There's just not enough interest down there, maybe apart from transplants from other hockey markets. Hey, another Toronto team would rake in cash like no other. Imagine being the lucky guy that gets to move a crumby team like FLA to a market like that. You'd instantly make a couple hundred million dollars.

That attendance was odd last night, thought I was watching a neutral site college hockey game for a while. Has to be better market out there somewhere.

Nice to see Nino and Zucker potting more goals!

If you were in Miami right now would you go to a Hockey game? I say move them up to Quebec. The same thing will happen if they put a team in Las Vegas and look what's happening in Phoenix. When you don't have strong youth hockey programs, it's pretty unlikely you'll be able to support an NHL team.

I'd much rather watch a game in Winnipeg or Boston where the stands are full and the fans are going crazy.

the panthers could be a very good team soon. Lots of high enders drafted over the last several years.

King's record on the road is 1-4-4, that's not going to matter though if we can't get any pucks past quick. If I remember right we out shot the King's by a pretty good margin last time, just couldn't score.

L.A. comes out thumping and the Wild are no shows for the first period. Mediocre 2nd. Need at least 4 in the 3rd to make a game of it. I would have pull Kuemper after the 3rd goal if not sooner. He lets in one and you can see his whole posture change.

Especially if its early. When the second one went in he should have been pulled. And when are we gonna start putting some of these slapshots and one-timers ON GOAL!!!!!!!???? My God, they all go sailing 5' from the flippin goalie. Hard to get a cheap rebound when you cant get them long shots on target.

Story of the year so far has to be my 2nd fav NYI, another big win last night and only one point out of the lead in the east with 32 points...this team is for real!

Wild are getting pushed around too much, playing a perimeter game and no "big shot". I think kemps will be OK.

I bet half of those 8k were wild fans, living in that area for the winter.

seems even the baseball teams down there have bad attendance.

Gutty win last night after almost letting it slip away, drove to the net and got better shots in the slot area. Kemps is having problems with the high shots like Backstrom has an issue with as well so hopefully that gets taken care of real fast.

Walked today and yesterday, flushed 9, shot at two and got two. Hopefully next year I'll have a dog to hunt with. Still warm up here, skim of ice on ponds. Weather has been nice. Hopefully walk a bit more the next few weeks. Been pretty cautious walking for birds to not interfere with deer hunters. There sure are not the deer hunters there used to be

On the South Shore...  The focus for many this week is the ongoing deer hunting season which is a big tradition in these parts, even for avid walleye anglers.  There were some that either already harvested their deer or are more into catching fall walleyes than hunting.     Those that are fishing are taking advantage of the unseasonably warm weather and excellent walleye and sauger bite that is happening across the lake.  Cold weather is in the forecast in the upcoming days and weeks so that is also getting many excited. The best depths on the south end of LOW are 22-28 feet of water.     Vertical jigging with frozen emerald shiners is catching most of the walleyes, saugers and jumbo perch.  Depending upon where on the lake you are fishing, some slots and big trophies are in the mix as well, but most reports are talking about good numbers of eaters.    Jumbo perch are coming in good numbers this fall which will serve ice anglers well.  Watch out for an occasional pike or even lake sturgeon mixed in with the walleyes.      There are good numbers of walleyes and saugers across the south shore which is setting up nicely for early ice.   On the Rainy River...  There continues to be good numbers of shiners in the river, and consequently, there are good walleyes in the river as well.     Walleyes along with saugers, pike and some sturgeon are coming in up and down the river.  Most walleyes are being caught in 10-25 feet of water in various stretches of the river.   Jigging with live or frozen emerald shiners is the key. Some anglers are also still slow trolling crankbaits upstream to cover more ground and find fish. Both methods are producing solid results. Sturgeon fishing remains strong.  The catch-and-release sturgeon fishing is open into the spring when it changes to the "keep season" on April 24th. Up at the NW Angle...  As temps are getting colder, most are in the woods hunting and not fall fishing, however, for those who bundle up, fishing continues to be excellent.     A nice mixed bag with walleyes, saugers, perch, pike and crappies being caught. Very good muskie fishing with the colder water temps and shorter days.  Some big fish and some good numbers are being caught amongst the islands.  Both casting and trolling is getting it done.

I hunt in the rifle zone so I don't have a need to use a shotgun to hunt deer, but I would be looking at this if there was ever a need to.   There could be state legislation introduced next summer that eliminates the shotgun zone completely.  It has bipartisan support.  Wisconsin removed theirs years ago and MN is usually later to follow.  They've tried to pass it more than once and it came up just short both times.  Probably just a matter of time.

      Screw that, here's whatch need!  😆   Power-Shok Rifled Slug 10 Gauge 766 Grain Grain Weight: 766 Shotshell Length: 3-1/2in / 89mm Muzzle Velocity: 1280

20 ga has become a real popular deer round in the last 5 or so years.  The rifled barrels are zinging those sabot slugs with rifle like accuracy out to 100 yards easily.  Some go so far as dialing in for a 200 yard shot but really, by 150 they’re falling off pretty low.   I have a single shot Ultraslug in 20 ga that shoots really well at 100 yards.  Most everyone I know that has bought a slug gun lately has gotten the Savage 220 in 20ga.  Problem can be finding the shells you want.
    • leech~~
My son always bugs me about getting a nice light over-under 20ga for grouse hunting.  I say Heck no, I'm getting a 3 1/2" 10ga so I can put as much lead in the air that I can!!     So, I'm keeping my 12ga.
    • 11-87
That’s almost exactly what I was thinking.  Have slug barrels for both   One for turkey and one for deer.      I have a 20ga mosseberg as well. (Combo came with the scope but never used.   I always liked the 12 better
    • leech~~
Wanderer is right on the money and covered it well.  I was wondering too if you had a slug barrel for one of your guns?  If so you could make that your slug gun with a scope, and the other your turkey gun with the Red dot.  As you can afford it.
    • Wanderer
Kinda depends on if you want magnification or quick target acquisition.   More magnification options and better accuracy with a scope.  You get what you pay for too so get comfortable with a budget for one.  Tasco and Bushnell work but I find they lose their zero easier, have low contrast and don’t gather light well in low light conditions.  That said, I’m still using one I haven’t replaced yet.  Vortex has been the hot brand for the past several years for bang for the buck.  Good products.  Nothing beats Swarovski though.  Huge dough for those.  Burris is another decent option.   There are some specific models for shotgun/slug hunting in the economy brands and bullet drop compensation (BDC) reticles.  Based on experience I’d recommend not falling for that marketing ploy.   Red dots are usually lower magnification and easier to get on target.  Reasonably accurate but don’t do well with definition, like searching the brush for your target.  I put a HAWKE red dot on a .22 for squirrels and it’s been good.  For turkey, that’s probably the route I’d go.     If your slug shots are normally not too far and too brushy, I’d think a red dot could work there too if you’re only buying 1 scope.  You’ll be better off dimming the reticle to the lowest setting you can easily use to not over shine the target and get a finer aim point.   If you don’t have a slug barrel, you might appreciate one of those.  I had a browning with a smoothbore slug barrel that shot Brenneke 2-3/4 inch well.  The 11-87 would well fitted with a cantelever rifled barrel.
