Awning for my Ice Castle

I want to put a canvas tarp on my new ice castle to keep rain and snow off over the entry of the fish house. I will be using all Fall as my hunting shack.

I will be using 2 tent poles for the 2 corners, but am very Leary of drilling into the top of the siding .

Can anyone let me know if they have done this and if so can you attach a picture ?

I setup a canvas awning on my 18 foot Mallard camper. I drilled holes that lined up with the grommets on the canvas along the roof edge, above the wall. Then put in screws coated with silicone and left the screws sticking out an inch. The setup is to hook the canvas grommets on the screws. Put up poles on the corners of the canvas and stake them out. Then I put a pole in the center of the canvas that has one more pole section on it than the corner poles and has a tennis ball on top. The weight of the canvas holds the center pole in place. This puts a peak in the canvas that makes the water run off to the sides and not pool on the canvas.

I'd just get a plastic tarp large enough to go across the roof and extend out past the roof for the length you want. Use ropes and stakes to tie down the back edge and ropes, poles and stakes to hold the front edge.

Spend the money for canvas. Been there, done the plastic.

Buy the channel from a camper dealer or wherever, attach it where wanted, have a rope sewn in a hem on one side of the canvas so it can be pulled through the channel and put the number of grommets you need for support poles on the opposite side. A good tarp shop should know what is needed. That's the way we did it way back when.
