I hope nobody here was dead set on seeing his induction into the twins hall of fame on August 23! The ceremony has been cancelled. He's in trouble with the law again for getting drunk and hitting his wife. My question is, who's idea was it to put him in the twins hall of fame? He's literally like the only athlete in all of Minnesota's pro sports history to be absolutely hated by the fans!

Not defending Chuck at all for his actions but it seems the Twins have some issues with who gets in and why.

Lets see, didn't Kirby have some issues also?

Wonder why Lou Gehrig got into the Baseball Hall of Fame, he also had issues and maybe a few more than Chuck.

What issues did Kirby have? Some dumb bimbo that was coming on to him so he felt her up, she wanted some attention, made accusations. Thats this bad? Please Harvey, Kirby was a saint. Met him multiple times, class darn act.

A saint... wow. And we wonder why sports and athletes get by with what they get by with...

cheating on his wife, beating women, taking a whizz at nicollet mall. I guess in the spectrum of scummy sports players, he's probably not that bad...

a class f'in' act. right, right..... just because he was nice when he signed your baseball card don't mean carp.

I met Kirby throughout all stages of his career and after baseball, and I'm not talking about autograph signings at Shinders. Always was a nice guy, class act.

Stayed here when Steinbrenner was willing to pay a boat load for him.

The rest is hearsay, glad your opinion of him rides on hearsay, mine goes on personal experience. Typical Bobby banter, still salty over his Cards losing in 87.

Kirby was a very good ball player but he did what he did. Some overlook what they do outside baseball if they are a great player.

I don't know Kirby like you say but let's face it, he was no saint.

When you were with him, I highly doubt that he said, look what I did and got away with. No normal person would do that and one in the limelight like Kirby surely would not.

Believe in Kirby all you like, that's fine.

Kirby beat the charge as most do when they have that kind of money. How about OJ, same thing, lots of money and no murder charge. This list can go on and on for those sports stars that were charged but got free. Most know or realize that if you have the funds to hire the top lawyers in this country, you can get away with just about anything.

Yes and if the Mn Twins would not have put Kirby in the HOF, the fans would have been very upset. Kirby was a favorite of many in Minnesota.

and if I remember right it wasn't Steinbrenner throwing money at him it was the Red Sox that he almost signed with...

Kirby was a very lovable charachter but perfect he was not...easy to forget some of his transgressions but the people that saw him around town prior to him going to AZ the word was he had some negative demons he needed to address

We all have demons you just have to be able to control them. Kirby could not. They are not accusations they happen. I was one of Kirbys biggest fans but he still did what he did. Twins hall of Fame should be for what they did as Twins. Chuck had problems even while in the uniform here. Now we still see them happening. I'm ok with him not being in he never could stay out of trouble.

I just remember him winning rookie of the year. Other than that, were Knoblauch's stats even worthy of him being in the twins hall of fame?

In his 7 years here, he averaged almost 40 stolen bases a year, scored over 100 runs per year. His BA was over 300. Awfully good numbers. He's still a Dick.

Lol. That's funny right there, I don't care who you are. And true. I view Pete Rose the same way. He was my baseball idol growing up and still is. He was one of the best ever, period. Within the top 50 players ever and maybe top 10 even. The guy was a machine on the field. He also wasn't so perfect afterward it appears. You can say what he did was worse than Knoblauch or Puckett but its apples to oranges and I'm not sure a guy with a gambling program is worse than someone who beats his wife or one who literally holds a gun to her head and threatens to kill her.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
