This will be my 1st time to LOW. Just wondering a couple of things? I'll be coming from St.Cloud MN. Once I get on hwy 71 past black duck and past Red Lake. Where do I go from there to get to an Access close to Arnesons, Looks like that road goes right by LOW. What is the best (closest place to drive out from to fish Arnesons.) Is this a spot on the lake I assume.) Sorry if this is annoying, I learn as I go. I have a portable house, just looking for a little help finding an access and getting to a fishing spot. How much is the lake access?
Any help would be much appreciated. I'll even buy you a beer if I see you on the lake.
thanks
Directions to Arnesen's Rocky Point as follows: At Blackduck take 72 NOT 71 north through Kellier and Washkish to the Jct with 11 on the east edge of Baudette. Take 11 west through Baudette, through Williams and to the east edge of Roosevelt. Take Co.Rd. 17 north(right) all the way to the end of the road. Drive-on access point in that area is Babler's road, just before you get to Arnesen's. Not sure about the fee, I'm guessing about $5.oo. Richard will be able to give specific info about the bite, bait, depths etc.. Also Arnesen's is an excellent place to eat. Good Luck Ol Sneller

Bablers road will have a big blue sign at the driveway. Give him your 5 bucks as right when you turn off the tar road. Follow his road to the lake, when you get to the lake pretty much jsut follow the road straight out, if you go right you will be at Twin Islands (not a bad place to go by the reports) Once on the road you should be able to see Gull rock, keep on the road right though all the houses on the rock and you have another 2 miles or so to arnesen's. I was there last saturday and kept a limit of nice saugers in 30 feet of water. There is house all over so your guess is as good as mine whether to fish right with everyone or get away from the crowd. If it was up to me I would get away from the crowd. Hope this helps

bucks-n-ducks
You may want to go up Hwy 10 to DL and then get on 59 north. Take that to hwy 2 then go north out of McIntosh. I don't remember the road number but you can basically go straight north to Warroad. I think it would save you some time. Not sure but it is worth looking at on the map.

Made a quick trip before the weekend rush on Vermilion. Ice was in very good condition. Didn't see any slush or water on any of the roads out from McKinley Park. There are plowed roads on both side of the staked snowmobile trail coming out from the landing. The road to the left goes out toward Birch Island, and there is a spur road going to the left (west) a couple hundred yards out. The road on the right side goes out toward Ely Island. There is a short spur road going east about half mile out. The water came up under my fish house about another 1½ inches when I drilled my holes. Looks like I will be going back up early next week to block my house up higher. The small amount of new snow is really drifting up and adding weight. You may get water on the ice, or find slush if you drill holes in new areas. There is about 15% bare ice where the wind has blown it off. Many of the drifts are very high and hard, so you could get stuck on them. Fishing was average. Best bites were from 9-10am and 11-1230 when I quit. Biggest walleyes was only 16¼", then the next biggest was 13.75". Reporting lengths in quarter inches because I can't seem to find any big walleyes. Good luck fishing, be careful driving around, and be courteous to others.
